Police Britality: Danfo Driver Beaten To A Pulp In Lagos!

 A commercial bus-driver popularly known as "Danfo-driver" was on Sunday, 19th August, 2018 beating to a pulp by some officers of the Nigerian Police Force, around the traffic light at the Victorian Garden City (VGC) junction, Lekki, Lagos - Nigeria.



Eye witnesses who spoke with Roving Informant said the Police officers chased the commercial bus from Ajah area, and caught up with the bus at the traffic light. The officers, it was gathered bounced on the driver, beating him to stupor. One of the officers they said, even went ahead to hit the driver with his gun. The scenario attracted some area-boys in the area and as well as passers-by, who inquired what warranted such treatment. The Police reportedly said the driver knocked-down someone and ran-off. A claim passengers in the bus dismissed. According to the passengers, the Police wanted to collect some money from the driver, but he refused to stop, which resulted to the chase. Not satisfied with the beating, the Officers went on to deflate the tires of the vehicle and removed the battery.



In a bid to contest this mistreat, the driver stripped naked and clutched to the Police vehicle as the officers zoomed off. On getting to Berger bus-stop, opposite Ikota Shopping Complex, the Police officers reportedly tossed the driver off their vehicle and continued on their flight. This action inflicted more body injuries on the driver who fell hard on the coal tar.




When some of the bus-passengers, passersby and area-boys who chased the Police vehicle got to the spot where the driver was left for dead on the express, out of anger about the brutality they witnessed, barricaded the express way, causing a logjam.

INEC Extends Voters Registration To August 31st!

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced its decision to extend the Voters Card registration to 31st August, 2018.


"The Commission has decided to extend the CVR to 31st August 2018. The exercise will continue in all the designated registration centres every day, including weekends, but excluding public holidays, between 9am and 5pm".

Human Rights Violation Allegations And Reports: Osinbajo Orders Immediate SARS Overhaul!

Nigeria's Vice-President, who also doubles as the 'Acting President' at the moment, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has ordered the immediate over-hauling of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigerian Police. This development came following series of human-right violation reports, and allegations levied against the squad. In a statement dated 14, August, 2018, The State House, through the office of the Acting-President released the following statement via its Twitter handle:




Acting President Orders Immediate Overhaul of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police

"Directs investigation on alleged violations of the squad
Following persistent complaints and reports on the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) that border on allegations of human rights violations, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to, with immediate effect, overhaul the management and activities of SARS and ensure that any Unit that will emerge from the process, will be intelligence-driven and restricted to the prevention and detection of armed robbery and kidnapping, and apprehension of offenders linked to the stated offences, and nothing more.
The Acting President has also directed the IGP to ensure that all operatives in the emerging Unit conduct their operations in strict adherence to the rule of law and with due regard to International Human Rights Law and the constitutionally guaranteed rights of suspects. The operatives should also bear proper identification anytime they are on duty.

In the meantime, the Acting President has directed the National Human Rights Commission to set up a Special Panel that will conduct an investigation of the alleged unlawful activities of SARS in order to afford members of the general public the opportunity to present their grievances with a view to ensuring redress."

Five High-School Nigerian Girls Wins Silicon Valley's World Technovation Challenge!

Promise Nnalue, Jessica Osita, Nwabuaku Ossai, Adaeze Onuigbo and Vivian Okoye, the five girls from Regina Pacies Secondary school Onitsha, Anambra state, Nigeria, who represented Nigeria and Africa at the World Technovation Challenge, clutched the price. 



Sweeping through over 2000 applications, to grasp the first position, at the Silicon ValleySan Francisco, United States of America, they won the challenge with a mobile application called the FD-Detector, which they developed to aid tackle the challenge of fake pharmaceutical products in the market.

According to news, the girls spent five months researching and developing under the coaching of Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu, the CEO of Edufun Technik STEM.  About 115 countries participated in the qualifier, but 12 teams made it to the finalist in Silicon Valley.
