Chavez suffering new respiratory infection

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's breathing problems have worsened and he is suffering a new, severe respiratory infection after cancer surgery in Cuba, the government has said.

Information minister Ernesto Villegas said in a brief statement on Tuesday that the 58-year-old's condition continued to be "very delicate".
"Today there is a worsening of respiratory function. Related to his depressed immune system, there is now a new, severe infection," he said in the statement, read from the Caracas military hospital where Chavez is being treated.
"The president has been receiving high-impact chemotherapy, along with other complementary treatments... his general condition continues to be very delicate."
Al Jazeera's Gabriel Elizondo, reporting from Caracas, said that Villegas had said that the president is "clinging to his faith in Christ".
Chavez has not been seen in public, apart from one set of photos, since a December 11 cancer operation in Cuba.
In January, the country's top court endorsed postponing his inauguration and ruled that the president and his deputy would continue in their roles, despite opposition complaints.
Hundreds of students and other critics of his government staged a protest earlier this week to demand more information about his health.
Vice President Nicolas Maduro, his chosen successor, said over the weekend that Chavez was still sending instructions about political and economic policies.
Officials say Chavez has been in hospital since returning from Cuba two weeks ago.

Father-to-Be Prince William Speaks Out Against Poaching

In a video address to world leaders gathered in Bangkok for the 2013 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (or CITES), kate Middleton's other half urged all to take active measures to put an end to the poaching of endangered species, particularly African elephants and rhinos.
"What you decide in this room over the next two weeks could determine the fates of some of the world's most captivating species, as well as many lesser-known plants and animals that warrant equal attention," the Duke of Cambridge, a longtime anti- poaching activist, says in his latest missive on the subject.
"As we enter 2013, the world's natural resources are under threat as never before," William continues. "We know from the data and analysis presented to this meeting that the illegal killing of the African elephant and rhino and the related illegal trade in their ivory and horn has reached shocking levels in the past few years...We must do more to combat this serious crime if we are to reverse the current alarming trend."
"We simply must not let this catastrophe unfold. Our children should have the same opportunity that we have, to experience wildlife in its many beautiful and varied forms," the expectant dad, whose first child is due in July, says in expressing confidence that the assembled leaders can make a difference.
"If I may I would like to wish all participants a highly productive and successful meeting," William adds. "There will undoubtedly be differences of opinions from time to time, but I know you're all bound by a common objective."
His Royal Highness also spoke out at last summer's U.K. premiere of African Cats, urging all assembled to "act now, coherently and together, if the situation is to be reversed and our legacy—our global, natural legacy—preserved. Tomorrow will be too late."

Justin Bieber Booed by Fans After Arriving Late to London Concert

Justin Bieber

Beliebers are a little mad at  Justin Bieber tonight.
The singer, who said he planned to "chill with friends" before his London shows this week, may have been chilling longer than he should have, after arriving to his concert—the first of his Believe tour—at the O2 Arena tonight nearly two hours late.
Biebs has yet to address why he was tardy for the party (we know he was having a "a good day"leading up to it), but fans didn't waste any time expressing their frustration at the delay or a  desire for a refund.
"I was at the concert and he [Bieber] came out at 10:15 p.m. and Cardly Rae Jepsen finished her set at 9:10 p.m.. Justin should have been out at 9:30," concertgoer Sophia Lee exclusively told E! News. "Everyone was kept waiting not knowing anything. All they did was kept playing Michael Jackson songs. All the fans were getting so annoyed at around 9:50 p.m., fans started booing."
According to the  tickets, J.B. was scheduled to appear at 8:30 p.m.
Since many of Bieber's fans are younger teenagers, a number of them left early because it was a school night, while others had to jet before the singer even took the stage in order to catch the train.
"I stayed! But many people left early as the last underground train was at 12 a.m., so people needed to get home," Lee continued. "He didn't even apologize. That's what makes it worse...My mom paid for five tickets so she's not happy."
The Arena's  posted via Twitter, "Justin Bieber is now on stage and apologises for the lateness of his show," and  addede, "Sorry to all the Justin Bieber fans for the lateness of his show tonight. The Tube will still be running when the show finishes."
Bieber's camp has yet to comment.

Dangote now world’s 43rd richest man –Forbes

Nigeria’s business mogul, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, is the 43rd richest man on earth today, according to the 2013 list of world’s billionaires, compiled by Forbes Magazine. He is worth $16.1 billion, with assets from his cement, sugar, flour and other businesses. He is number one in Nigeria and Africa. LEADERSHIP recalls that Dangote was number 76 on the list last year.
Mexico’s Carlos Slim, who has taken a hit from the slump in the share price of his America Movil telecoms group since the list was calculated as of February 14, remained the richest person with a fortune of $73 billion, and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates held on to the No. 2 spot with a net worth of $67 billion.
Spain’s Amancio Ortega, the co-founder of the Inditex fashion group, leapt over Warren Buffett and France’s Bernard Arnault to become the world’s third richest person on Forbes’ 2013 annual ranking of billionaires, with an estimated net worth of $57 billion.
Ortega’s fortune increased $19.5 billion, the biggest gain for any of the billionaires, from the report in 2012. He jumped two places and bumped Buffett, chairman and chief executive of conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway Inc, with a fortune of $53.5 billion out of the top three to the No. 4 spot for the first time since 2000.
“Warren had a great year, it’s just that Amancio Ortega had a better year,” Forbes magazine editor Randall Lane said of the co-founder of Zara. “He has one of the dominant apparel lines in Europe.”
Arnault, of the LVMH luxury goods group, dropped to 10th place with $29 billion.
Slim, 73, made much of his fortune in telecommunications but also branched out into retail, commodities, finance and energy.
“To see Carlos Slim again broaden his lead and certify himself as the richest man in the world is a statement that wealth truly is global and not an American monopoly like it sometimes felt for many decades,” Lane added in an interview.
Dangote, 55, retains his position as Africa’s richest man for the third year in a row. The past year has been eventful for him. In October, he sold off a controlling stake in his flour milling company to Tiger Brands of South Africa. He pocketed $190 million in cash. In February, his Dangote Sugar Refineries acquired a 95 per cent stake in Nigerian sugar producer Savannah Sugar in a bid to maintain its dominant position in the Nigerian sugar industry. Dangote stepped up his philanthropy in the past year, giving over $100 million to causes ranging from education to health, flood relief, poverty alleviation and the arts. He also acquired a yacht, which he named after his mother Amiya.
The second Nigerian on the list is Otunba Mike Adenuga, who is 267th richest on earth, second in Nigeria and 5th in Africa. Adenuga, 59, owns Globacom — Nigeria’s second largest telecommunication’s firm, Conoil and some stake in Sterling Bank Nigeria. He founded Globacom in 2006. It has 24 million customers in Nigeria, operates in the Republic of Benin and recently acquired licences to start businesses in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. His Conoil Producing is one of Nigeria’s largest independent exploration companies, with a production capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day.
The Forbes billionaire’s list of 2013 has newcomers. There’s also upward and downward shift for some. Carlos Slim Helu, 73, of Mexico and family remains the richest in the world with $73 billion; Bill Gates, 57, is second with $67 billion. Amancio Ortega, 76, of Spain leapt to third place, with $57 billion, keeping famous investor Warren Buffet, 82, at 4th place, with 53.5 billion. Oracle founder, Larry Ellison, 68, is 5th with $43 billion.
Other famous people on the list include Google co-founder and CEO Larry Page, 39, who, with $23 billion, is 20th on the list. Fellow co-founder Sergey Brin, 39, is 21st with $22.8 billion. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, 28, is 66th on the list with $13.3 billion. Oprah Winfrey, 59, is the 503rd person with $2.8 billion. Many of the billionaires give millions in philanthropy every year.
