Egypt military coup: Pictures and eyewitness account of jubilation in Cairo's Tahrir Square!

General Abdul Fatah Khalil al Sisi.Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi

It started with a whisper that built to a tsunami of jubilation.

Chief justice Adly Mansour takes oath hours after democratically elected Mohamed Morsi overthrown by military.

At 9.05pm, one group on the outskirts of Tahrir Square heard the news that President Morsi had gone.

In an instant, a ripple of recognition built to a wave of ecstasy that swept the tens of thousands gathered to see the fall of the hated head of state.
A fourth of July of fireworks erupted into the sky, along with the obligatory green lasers.

Egypt Protests Intensify As Army Ousts President Morsi

Then, two soldiers resplendent in pristine white uniforms were carried above the heads of the crowd deep into the masses where they were greeted with jubilation.

Only in Egypt can a military coup overthrow a democratically elected government and be greeted with overwhelming support.
The army here, unlike many countries, is there to protect the people.
Two years ago the army stood by as tens of thousands gathered in the same square to bring about the downfall of detested dictator Hosni Mubarak.
Tanks were dotted around the square but the soldiers, far from threatening, protected the protestors with senior officers ignoring requests from the president to use force to crush the opposition.

The soldiers simply had no wish to turn their guns on their own people.
This week, the people spoke again.
They wanted an end to the Muslim Brotherhood government which had gone from a loose coalition of voices to a narrow Islamist agenda.
The people spoke and the army responded.

As the soldiers passed by, smiling and chanting along with the crowd holding them above their heads, one jubilant Egyptian said: "He has gone, the army have helped us."
Memories of the transition from Mubarak to military rule two years ago now seems distant to many Egyptians.

Then, there were fears that the military would remain control and not hand over power to the people. After protests they eventually did.

But by forcing Morsi out of office, they have shown that the generals are not too far away from the levers of power and seem reluctant to fully let go.
But in Tahrir Square it mattered little. The tens of thousands were joined by many more who flooded into the concrete plaza on hearing the news.
Nobody wanted to miss the party.

A few miles away, a small crowd of Muslim Brotherhood supporters stood dejected and surrounded by friendly soldiers.
The organisation had waited decades to gain control of Egypt and within a year they had lost it.
But in the elections promised soon they could well be back.

A former Managing Director of Bank PHB Plc, now Keystone Bank Limited, Francis Atuche; his wife, Elizabeth; and his associate, Ugo Anyanwu, and others are to answer charges against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Justice Lateefat Okunnu of a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Monday, said they should be ready to open their defence in the N27 billion scam they were accused of.
The Judge said: “A prima facie case has been established by the EFCC against the defendants, and as a result, two applications before the court by the 1st, 2nd and 3rd defendants cannot succeed and are thereby overruled and dismissed.
“The defendants are hereby called upon to open their case.
“A question we need to ask is, has enough been said to warrant an explanation from each of the defendants?”
“The 27-count charge against the defendants established that they all fraudulently converted bank’s money for personal use.
She further stated that, “the prosecution has enough evidence before me.
“About 12 witnesses have been called and 272 exhibits have been presented before the court by the prosecution.”

In addition, she declared that proofs have been presented by the prosecution that huge sum of money was stolen through the former Bank PHB and that all the stolen funds were diverted by the first defendant, Atuche, for his personal use.
Justice Okunnu, after dismissing the two applications filed by the defendants, adjourned the case to, July 17, October 2, 4, 23, 24 and 25, 2013.

Revealed: Al-Qaeda Leader Spent Thousands Of Dollars On American Prostitutes!

On the eve of an infamous presentation, Al Qaeda leader, Anwar al-Awlaki gave at the Pentagon in 2002, the Al Qaeda operative was busy preparing — with a prostitute he paid $400 for at a Washington hotel.
It was one of more than a half-dozen liaisons Awlaki had with prostitutes between late 2001 and early 2002, while he was under FBI surveillance, according to documents obtained by Judicial Watch and reviewed exclusively by Fox News.

The documents shed new light on the double life the American-born Awlaki was leading, while living in the Washington area and working as an imam at a mosque in Falls Church, Va.

One document obtained by Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group, was a June 2002 memo from FBI Assistant Director Pasquale D’Amuro detailing Awlaki’s encounters with prostitutes in the D.C. area. The memo appeared to propose charges against him, claiming he spent $2,320 on seven different occasions between Nov. 5, 2001, and Feb. 4, 2002.

It described in detail an interview with the “escort” who saw him on Feb. 4, the day before he was scheduled to have lunch at the Pentagon as an invited guest.

She claimed she had a 5 p.m. appointment with him that day, and when he arrived at her room, “she looked through the ‘peep’ hole … and thought to herself that he looked like Osama bin Laden.

She later identified him as Awlaki.

He paid $400 for sex, the memo said. He was described by the escort as “very polite.” Awlaki, who has a record with prostitutes — he was booked in San Diego on charges of soliciting prostitutes in the late ’90s — also told the escort that he likes to use escort services when he travels to Florida, according to the memo.

The memo described in graphic detail the services rendered for Awlaki during that period. One prostitute described a December 2001 encounter where Awlaki paid $300, in order to watch “as she engaged in erotic behavior and stimulated herself.”

They met again, for the same activities, in mid-January 2002, according to the document.

The numbers are little short of staggering; at 500 metres long, 400 metres wide and 100 metres high a 1.76-million-square-metre-mega-building has been opened in Sichuan province in southwestern China.
The New Century Global Center, officially the largest freestanding building in the world, took three years to complete and will house offices, shopping malls, a Mediterranean village, a 14-screen IMAX Cineplex and an ice-skating rink large enough to hold international skating competitions.
The building is so large it is capable of housing the equivalent of 20 Sydney Opera Houses and is almost three times the size of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
At the centre of the building is a huge water park called Paradise Island. Around 400,000 square metres of the building are dedicated to shopping.
The building sits directly opposite the Chengdu Contemporary Arts Centre, designed by British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid.
The New Century Global Center is at the heart of a new planned area of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in southwestern China.
Its opening has been timed to coincide with the expansion of a new subway line for the area and the planned construction of a new airport set for completion in 2020.
