Canadian woman steals back stolen bicycle!

A Vancouver woman earned widespread notoriety Tuesday for stealing back her bicycle from a thief after seeing it advertised online.

Kayla Smith, 33, told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that her Can$1,000 (US$950) bicycle was taken from a rack in Vancouver's oceanfront Olympic Village -- constructed to host athletes during the 2010 Winter Games and now a bustling neighborhood.

Smith filed a police report.

The next day, she spotted an ad on the classified advertisements website Craigslist for a bike that looked suspiciously like hers, so she contacted the seller and arranged to meet him in a nearby McDonald's parking lot, posing as a buyer.

She told the CBC she immediately recognized her bike, with personalized stickers on the frame.

"Holy crap this is my bike," Smith told the public broadcaster. "Like what do I do? And then I was just, like, play dumb."

The woman asked the seller if she could ride it around the parking lot and took off.

As news of her daring dash spread online, police cautioned against confronting thieves, but her actions continued to draw praise.

The mother of the 13-year-old stowaway, Ricky Daniel Ohikhena, who on Friday (August 23rd, 2013) hid in the tyre compartment of an Arik plane on a flight from Benin to Lagos, was on Monday quizzed for hours by a combined team of security operatives from the Department of State Security Service and aviation security.

 

 

The mother, Evelyn, who confirmed that she was quizzed by the SSS operatives, said her son was a nice boy who never displayed any tendency for such a dangerous venture.

An embattled Evelyn said Daniel was a nice boy who did not mingle with bad friends.

 

  

She said, “My son answers Daniel in school and Ricky at home. I went to my elder sister’s place who put to bed and when I got home the next morning (Saturday), I couldn’t find him. My daughter told me that they quarrelled in the night because he woke at midnight to watch movies and she told him to stop watching movie in the night and she said he eventually slept in the parlour while she said she went back to sleep in the room.

“One of his younger brothers said he saw him remove all his school books from his bag; so I asked my neighbours whether any of them saw him and they told me that at around 5 to 6 am, they heard sounds that somebody was opening the gate but never thought it was my son. He doesn’t go out. What I know is that he is always watching films in the house but he doesn’t have friends.

“I went to Oba Market police station, they referred me to Evbuotubu police station, when I got there they said they will declare him missing after 24 hours and that I should come back the next day.”

 

Speaking on the type of person her son is, Evelyn said, “He is always at home, I have never seen anybody come to look for him and he doesn’t have friends. I am begging the government to help me, because I have never been to the airport before, I have been to Lagos before so they should help me. I don’t know how he manage to get there but I just thank God that he is alive".

And before the stars were buzzing about Miley Cyrus' raunchy performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last night, the red carpet was filled with aww-worthy chatter about baby Nori—whose proud papa also put on a show at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.


"Everybody's jumping around, going crazy," Busta Rhymes told E! News of the world's reaction to the adorable tot.
"So adorable I just want to squeeze that baby," Lil Kim agreed.


 Lovebirds Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks had a similar reaction,
 

telling E! News, "Her cheeks are so huge!! She is so amazing and cute. It's OMG [reaction] first because she hid her for so long and second cause she is so adorable and beautiful."

Fifth Harmony continued the North West lovefest
"Aww I saw her yesterday she is so cute," the gals of 5H told E! News on the carpet. "She has such a full set of hair. She looks more like Kim then Kanye. I am so happy for her and Kanye."

 

And even rapper Future couldn't help but show off his softer side while cooing over little Nori, calling Kim and Kanye's daughter "breathtaking" (too cute!).
Iggy Azalea also said Nori "has some beautiful hair like her mom," while Danity Kane noted that North "looks a lot like both of them [Kim and Kanye]"


 

Real Housewives of New Jersey's Melissa and Joe Gorga commented on baby North's big reveal, saying how it was nice to see Nori make her debut on something other than the cover of a magazine.
"She is very cute and I love that she put out a picture on Instagram and it wasn't some big to-do," the reality couple told E! News. "She is beautiful and she is a cute little munchkin."

And of course, the former Jersey Shore stars also had something to say.
"That baby is so beautiful just so so beautiful," Sammi Giancola and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro told E! News. "So gorgeous and I just can't believe how much that baby resembles Kim," they added, while their former costar Deena Cortese agreed the little one is "super cute."

But while the stars were busy sounding off on the carpet about North West, Kim was busy watching her man, and the new mom later took to Twitter to share how proud she was of Ye's performance.

 

Snowden got stuck in Russia after Cuba blocked entry!

Former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden got stuck in the transit zone of a Moscow airport because Havana said it would not let him fly from Russia to Cuba, a Russian newspaper reported on Monday.


 
Snowden, who is wanted in the United States for leaking details of U.S. government surveillance programs, had planned to fly to Havana from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport a day after arriving from Hong Kong on June 23.



But Snowden, who eventually accepted a year's asylum in Russia after spending nearly six weeks at Sheremetyevo, did not show up for the flight although he had been allocated a seat.
Citing several sources, including one close to the U.S. State Department, Kommersant newspaper said the reason was that at the last minute Cuba told officials to stop Snowden from boarding the Aeroflot flight.
It said Cuba had changed its mind after pressure by the United States, which wants to try Snowden on espionage charges.
Kommersant also said Snowden had spent a couple of days in the Russian consulate in Hong Kong to declare his intention of flying to Latin America via Moscow.

"His choice of route and his plea to help were a complete surprise to us. We did not invite him," Kommersant quoted a Russian state source as saying.
Reuters could not immediately verify the report. 

Allowing Snowden to land would have put Cuba's relations with the United States at risk.
Ties between the United States and Russia were strained when Moscow granted Snowden asylum. Following the disagreement over Snowden, U.S. President Barack Obama postponed a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin planned for next month.

CNN anchor Isha Sesay made her own news Sunday night, marrying fellow CNN staffer Leif Coorlim in Atlanta. 



The couple tied the knot in front of close friends and family at the mandarin Oriental Hotel, the ceremony moved indoors from the English garden after CNN meteorologist Jen Delgado predicted bad weather. 

"It was magical. When I saw Leif standing at the end of the aisle, I felt as if my heart would explode. I married the man of my dreams in front of the people we care about the most. And then we partied the night away."
