Jonathan extends emergency rule in Adamawa, Yobe, Borno!

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has extended the current state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states by six months, even as Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State rejected the extension, describing it as unjustified and punitive.
Jonathan, in a letter dated November 5, 2013, to the Senate President, David Mark, seeking approval for the extension, explained that he took the decision because “some security challenges still exist in a few parts.”
However, he admitted that the security agencies, through the support of citizens in the affected areas, have achieved considerable successes in containing the activities of the terrorists.
He said by virtue of the provisions of Section 305(6) (C) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, the proclamation of emergency rule in the affected states will “elapse after a period of six months from the date of approval except the period is extended by the National Assembly.
As a result of the laudable efforts of our security agencies and the support of the citizens in the affected areas, we have achieved considerable successes in containing the activities of the terrorist elements. However, some security challenges still exist in a few parts.”
Consequently, it has become pertinent to request the approval of the distinguished Senate for an extension of the state of emergency for a further period of six months, during which time it is expected that normalcy would have been fully restored.
“In view of the foregoing, I most respectfully request the distinguished Senate to consider and approve, by resolution, the extension of the proclamation of the state of emergency by a further period of six months with effect from November 12.”
It will be recalled that the President, on May 11, 2013, declared emergency rule in the three states, following insurgency in the region.
Nyako reacts
Meanwhile, Governor Nyako, in a statement Wednesday, rejected the request by President Jonathan to extend the six-month-old state of emergency in the state, describing the action as unjustified and punitive.
The statement, which was signed by Nyako’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Sajoh, faulted the President for declaring a state of emergency in the state and asked the lawmakers to reject the request regarding Adamawa.
The governor said: “It is not fair for a President to be so disdainful towards the welfare of his people. We condemn any attempt to extend emergency rule in Adamawa State.
“As a government, we see the renewed bid for the imposition of a state of emergency in Adamawa as an affront on the people of the state and a negative reward for their endurance and cooperation so far.

“We call on the NASS to review the situation carefully and treat every state on its merit.”

10 things you might not know about love!

Lets take time out to reflect on these ten things we really might not know about love and find ways on building a heart full of love; because it ia an inevitable part of our life.

1. It can be hard to talk about love in scientific terms because people have strong pre-existing ideas about it.
The vision of love that emerges from the latest science requires a radical shift. I learned that I need to ask people to step back from their current views of love long enough to consider it from a different perspective: their body's perspective. Love is not romance. It's not sexual desire. It's not even that special bond you feel with family or significant others.
And perhaps most challenging of all, love is neither lasting nor unconditional. The radical shift we need to make is this: Love, as your body experiences it, is a micro-moment of connection shared with another.
2. Love is not exclusive.
We tend to think of love in the same breath as loved ones. When you take these to be only your innermost circle of family and friends, you inadvertently and severely constrain your opportunities for health, growth and well-being.
In reality, you can experience micro-moments of connection with anyone -- whether your soul mate or a stranger. So long as you feel safe and can forge the right kind of connection, the conditions for experiencing the emotion of love are in place.
3. Love doesn't belong to one person.
We tend to think of emotions as private events, confined to one person's mind and skin. Upgrading our view of love defies this logic. Evidence suggests that when you really "click" with someone else, a discernible yet momentary synchrony emerges between the two of you, as your gestures and biochemistries, even your respective neural firings, come to mirror one another in a pattern I call positivity resonance. Love is a biological wave of good feeling and mutual care that rolls through two or more brains and bodies at once.
4. Making eye contact is a key gateway for love.
Your body has the built-in ability to "catch" the emotions of those around you, making your prospects for love -- defined as micro-moments of positivity resonance -- nearly limitless. As hopeful as this sounds, I also learned that you can thwart this natural ability if you don't make eye contact with the other person. Meeting eyes is a key gatekeeper to neural synchrony.
5. Love fortifies the connection between your brain and your heart, making you healthier.
Decades of research show that people who are more socially connected live longer and healthier lives. Yet precisely how social ties affect health has remained one of the great mysteries of science.
My research team and I recently learned that when we randomly assign one group of people to learn ways to create more micro-moments of love in daily live, we lastingly improve the function of the vagus nerve, a key conduit that connects your brain to your heart. This discovery provides a new window into how micro-moments of love serve as nutrients for your health.
6. Your immune cells reflect your past experiences of love.
Too often, you get the message that your future prospects hinge on your DNA. Yet the ways that your genes get expressed at the cellular level depends mightily on many factors, including whether you consider yourself to be socially connected or chronically lonely.
My team is now investigating the cellular effects of love, testing whether people who build more micro-moments of love in daily life also build healthier immune cells.
7. Small emotional moments can have disproportionately large biological effects.
It can seem surprising that an experience that lasts just a micro-moment can have any lasting effect on your health and longevity. Yet I learned that there's an important feedback loop at work here, an upward spiral between your social and your physical well-being.
That is, your micro-moments of love not only make you healthier, but being healthier builds your capacity for love. Little by little, love begets love by improving your health. And health begets health by improving your capacity for love.
Making eye contact is a key gateway for love, Barbara Fredrickson says.

8. Don't take a loving marriage for granted.
Writing this book has profoundly changed my personal view of love. I used to uphold love as that constant, steady force that all but defines my marriage. While that constant, steady force still exists, I now see our bond as a product of the many micro-moments of positivity resonance that my husband and I have shared over the years. This shakes me out of any complacency that tempts me to take our love for granted. Love is something we should re-cultivate every single day.
9. Love and compassion can be one and the same.
If we reimagine love as micro-moments of shared positivity, it can seem like love requires that you always feel happy. I learned that this isn't true. You can experience a micro-moment of love even as you or the person with whom you connect suffers.
Love doesn't require that you ignore or suppress negativity. It simply requires that some element of kindness, empathy or appreciation be added to the mix. Compassion is the form love takes when suffering occurs.
10. Simply upgrading your view of love changes your capacity for it.
The latest science offers new lenses through which to see your every interaction. The people I interviewed for the book shared incredibly moving stories about how they used micro-moments of connection to make dramatic turnarounds in their personal and work lives.
One of the most hopeful things I learned is that when people take just a minute or so each day to think about whether they felt connected and attuned to others, they initiate a cascade of benefits. And this is something you could start doing today, having learned even just this much more about how love works.

I wish us the very best, as we find that special one to share our lives with; to those who already have found 'the one' don't take them for granted.

Lady Gaga to Sing In Outer Space In 2015!

It has been reported that Lady Gaga is officially taking her out-of-this-world performance style to the next level.

Getty Images

She hinted at the news on her Twitter page today, simply tweeting the hashtag
The 27-year-old pop star will sing in outer space in early 2015 before boarding a Virgin Galactic spaceship and being blasted into the ether. She’ll perform one song while orbiting the earth, and will have to train for a month prior to the event to make sure that her vocal cords can handle all the changes in atmospheric pressure.
Zero G Colony, a three-day hi-tech music festival, is set to take place at Spaceport America, New Mexico, and the climax of the even will feature the Mother Monster performing the first ever gig in outer space.
While some reports suggest Zero G Colony is a tech festival, it was learned the event is a high-concept ground event music festival, where guests will experience A-list entertainment, music, cutting-edge technology and futuristic attractions.
On the third day of the event, Lady Gaga will take off from the Spaceport on board a Virgin Galactic SpaceShip Two spacecraft and, upon reaching space, the singer will become the first ever-recording artist to perform outside the atmosphere, in zero gravity.

CHIME SULLIVAN AND WIFE CLARA DENIES HOUSE ARREST 'TALES'!

An interesting development to the on-going Clara Chime alleged house arrest.

Clara Chime wife of Enugu state governor Sullivan Chime has denied that she is under house arrest on Tuesday November 5,2013 in front of Journalists and family members.

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State vowed to protect the integrity of his wife, Mrs. Clara Chime who has denied sending any petition to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) alleging unlawful detention by her husband.
Mrs. Chime also denied contacting or engaging the services of Mr. Femi Falana or any other lawyer to seek her freedom from an alleged incarceration at Government House Enugu as the latter claimed in his letter to media houses and the Inspector-General of Police.
The governor and Mrs. Chime spoke to journalists, Tuesday night, at the Government Lodge, Enugu in the presence of Mrs. Chime’s elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe, the governor’s siblings, Mrs. May Oji and Dr. Jide Chime as well as Mrs. Chime’s neuro-psychiatric doctor, Dr. Aham Agumuo among few others. Governor Chime noted it was quite heart-aching for him to speak out publicly about his wife’s health challenges but insisted that he would do everything no matter the personal pains to protect her from ridicule.
Well, my wife has some medical challenges and it would be very unkind for me to talk about her condition on the pages of newspapers,” the governor said. “I’ve done everything to protect her integrity and I’m not now going to expose her to ridicule because some people want to exploit her situation to drag me into a needless war of words.
We’ve been battling this (Clara’s health challenges) prior to my inauguration in 2011. It was so bad at a time that she had to be taken out of here (Governor’s Lodge) for treatment. When she stabilized, I pleaded with her doctors if she could be brought back here to be receiving her treatment at home and they graciously accepted.
“There was a time she was confined indoors and that was strictly on her doctors’ advice. She’s here and she can confirm or deny it. Also, the doctors then advised against allowing her access to telephones and laptop.”At this point, the governor paused, heaved a deep sigh and continued his emotional narration. “I cannot say or do anything to undermine her dignity. She is, first and foremost, my wife. The big blunder I committed was allowing her access to the telephone and her laptop, against the advice of her doctor. I’m paying dearly for that today, going by what is happening now.
“Her brother is here, her doctor is here with us too. You people (journalists) can confirm anything you want from them, either here and at your convenience. Would I have been a better husband if I asked her to leave the Lodge because of her medical challenge? Would it not have been more convenient for me if I allowed her to stay and be treated in the hospital?
But like I said earlier, I wanted the best for her and that’s why I pleaded with the doctors to have her treated at home. That’s also why I allowed her access to her telephone and laptop which unfortunately led to the stage where I’m now being falsely accused of imprisoning or detaining my own wife.”
For quite a long time, Mrs. Chime could not speak, despite persuasions from her husband and brother. At a point, her brother, Tony Igwe took her to an adjacent room where they spent few our minutes before returning to join others.
Igwe now assured the rest people that she was willing to talk but it was another round of silence.
At last, Mrs. Chime said: “you (referring to the governor) and my doctor can speak on my behalf.”

The governor politely replied: “yes, I’m your husband and should ordinarily do so but you know I’m the one being accused of detaining you. This way, I’ve lost that privilege to speak for you, at least on this case. The story out there also is that your doctor is probably scared of me and gives you all kinds of drugs, sometimes against your wish.”
The wife of the governor said: “My doctor and I don’t have any problem.” On the petition to the National Human Rights Commission, Mrs. Chime corroborated an earlier text message she had sent to her husband that she had not met Falana or engaged him to seek her release from a purported unlawful custody.
Rather, she admitted that she wrote a letter to her doctor, Dr. Agumuo and another doctor overseas whom she was introduced to and wondered how the letter leaked to the public.
She also admitted that she was once confined to a room without access to her telephone and laptop. “That was when I had a serious crisis,” she says. Mrs. Chime also confirmed that she has the key to her room and controls her entry and exit, contrary to the claim in the petition that she had been locked up for asking to be allowed to leave.
Her grouse was that she had not been allowed to leave the premises, though she attended mass even last Sunday.
Governor Chime chipped in: “All I want to reassure you is that she is safe here. Her confinement within the premises for now is at the instance of her doctor who is here. Why would I want my wife locked up? If it had been that I had issues with her, there are many ways to resolve them. But that’s not the case. She is not well and I’m willing to do anything to support and protect her.
“It was always more convenient for me to have taken the easier route but that would have been very callous and ungodly. When I had my own health challenge, I was receiving treatment in London and thinking about her, making sure she received the right treatment. I’m forever grateful to her doctors who have done a great job. Both families are billed to meet very soon and after that, I’ll take a decision which will be in the interest of both parties.”
On his reaction to the petition to the IGP by Falana, the governor said: “He’s my professional colleague but sometimes you leave people to their conscience. I won’t join words with him. Has he met this client of his as he claimed to assess her state of mind and determine if she can give him the right brief to guide his case? Did he ask for access to her or to me and was denied? I leave it at that.
“That’s the penalty you face as a public officer. When I was receiving treatment in London, some of the newspapers reported that I had died in India. I’ve never been to India and had never applied for an Indian visa. Today, the story is that I’ve imprisoned my own wife in my residence.
I know their motives but I wish those behind such wicked tales well.”

However, in statement signed by the Coordinator of the CLO in the South-East Zone, the organization said the alleged treatment being meted out on Clara was uncivilized.
According to the statement, the CLO “condemn in an unequivocal terms the continuous unlawful detention of Mrs. Clara Chime the wife of the executive governor of Enugu State Mr. Sullivan Chime, who has been held captive by security details attached to the
Enugu state governor to protect the governor Mr. Sullivan Chime, Clara and the entire family”.
The statement entitled Continuous Unlawful Detention of Mrs Clara Chime at the Enugu State Government Lodge by Security Agents on the
Directives of Governor Sullivan Chime, Barbaric, Unlawful and Unconstitutional”
,
continued that “in view of the recent petition dated 1st November 2013, addressed to the Inspector General of Police by the Learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mr. Femi Falana demanding the immediate release of Mrs Clara Chime from her continued unlawful detention, we believe that this is the right time that all well meaning citizens of this great country should condemn this barbaric, uncivilised and unlawful act by a governor who is the chief security officer of the state.
“It should be noted that Mrs. Clara Chime freedom of movement and personal liberty has been curtailed since over four months ago by the security agents namely State Security Service (SSS) officials and policemen attached to the government house who have been acting on the directives of the state governor.
“It is submitted that this action of the governor is an affront on the constitutional guaranteed rights to freedom of movement and personal liberty enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which are also guaranteed rights under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ratification and Enforcement Act), Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004”.
“It is further submitted that this act is violates the “Convention To Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) (1981)” of which Nigeria is a party. The Convention defines discrimination against women as “…any distinction, exclusion or restriction made on the basis of sex which has the effect or purpose of impairing or nullifying the recognition, enjoyment or exercise by women, irrespective of their marital status, on a basis of equality of men and women, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field.” This Convention was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979 and was ratified in 1981.
“This matter goes beyond that of matrimonial issue and is an attack on women’s’ rights in this country. The “Matrimonial Causes Act” which is the law that governs matrimonial matters in the country laid down the procedures to be followed by an aggrieved spouse who wishes to divorce his or companion, but continuous detention, infringement on right to personal liberty and freedom of movement were never part of the law or sanctions provided by the law.
“This action by the governor constitutes a grave violation on the rights of women in Nigeria and setting a bad example in the country.
“We join the learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana in demanding the immediate release of Mrs Clara Chime from her continued detention by the security agents at the Enugu State government house acting on the directives of the state governor”, the statement added.

Only God knows the truth in this situation!

Well......we'l continue to keep you updated on this developments folks, as it is our custom.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie auction barrel of their estate wine for 10,000 euros!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have sold a signed barrel of white wine, produced by their estate in the south of France, for £8,600 at auction

                    Chateau Miraval

A barrel of organic wine produced by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s estate in the south of France has been sold for more than €10,000 (£8,500) at auction, with the money going to support an agricultural project in Africa.
Winegrowers in the village of Correns, where Pitt and Jolie have their chateau, 50 miles inland from Saint-Tropez, organised the sale on Wednesday evening as part of an annual auction to raise funds for the Kivu region of Democratic Republic of Congo, and donated to an agricultural cooperative which aims to teach young people about sustainable farming.
We’ve organised this sale in solidarity with the people of the Kivu region,” said Michael Latz, mayor of Correns.
“It’s in an area on bordering Rwanda which has been left impoverished by war. Young people and agriculture have been the principal victims of conflict – and yet they are the key to future stability in the region.”
The Pitt-Jolie barrel was by far the top seller, and was bought by local wine merchant Vins Breban. A 60-gallon cask, signed by the couple; it holds approximately 300 bottles – each bottle therefore worth around £28. This year’s sale made almost €25,000 for the charity, which operates in an area that Jolie visited in March this year alongside William Hague, the Foreign Secretary.
The couple teamed up with the French wine making Perrin family to develop the “Miraval Cotes de Provence” label, named after their estate.

Emperor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State and His Many Sins!

"Sincerely speaking, I hold no personal grudge against Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu state, but I unapologetically belong to the league of those who are of the view that Chime’s dirty past, messy deals and wicked practices are largely responsible for the truckloads, basket-full and lorry-loads of challenges competing for his soul at present. At the risk of passing judgment on him, Chime needs urgent help, certainly not from his cult group sha, but God.
Aside battling with his failing health, Chime is currently enmeshed in a sex scandal involving his wife’s younger sister whom the randy governor has since impregnated. At the moment, his wife and First Lady of Enugu state, Clara Chime, who has cried out to rights groips for help has been under house arrest for several months now. Aside that, Chime, under the watchful eyes of his detained wife, Clara, still imports young university girls to take care of his untamed libidinal prowess. This is the sad story of a man on whose frail shoulders rest the collective destinies of indigenes of Enugu state.
I still recall with deep seated grief when in October 2007 Governor Chime barefacedly threw decorum and respect for human lives to the dogs and directed his overzealous aides/thugs to rain live bullets on innocent, peaceful and law-abiding undergraduates of Kogi State University, Anyigba. The students, numbering about 50 were that faithful morning holding a peaceful protest to draw government’s attention to the increasing number of students who were daily knocked down by reckless drivers plying the Anyigba-Ankpa-Enugu road. Regrettably, instead of getting reprieve or pat on the back being civil, sorrow, tears and blood became the song on their lips as two of the protesting students (Mohammad Meyanga and another undergrad whom I can’t recall his name now) couldn’t survive gun shoot wounds they both sustained. This is not a tale. It happened before my very eyes. The question is, what was Governor or Emperor Chime’s reaction? Your guess is as good as mine. He silenced his conscience and hurriedly drove off, leaving the undergrads to bury their dead colleagues. Expectedly, the students' took to the streets to protest the gruesome killing of their colleagues. It took the intervention of the paramount ruler of Anyigba Community, the host community of the University, Ogohi of Anyigba to calm the students. To forestall possible breakdown of law and order, the institution was closed indefinitely.
As usual, our then barely literate governor or ‘Governor No Problem’ as fondly called, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, promised to investigate the gruesome act perpetrated by his fellow governor. As you read through these lines, this is 6 years after, no arrest, no report and nothing tangible has been done to get justice for these youngstars murdered in their prime.
The little I know about Mohammed Meyanga, who until his death was a year three Banking and Finance undergrad in KSU, was the first child and the hope of his widow-mother. Those very close to the family said Mohammad was all the poor widow had on earth, so she did her best to ensure that he got a university education. Sadly, her dream of seeing her son ceremoniously bade farewell to KSU Campus upon graduation was aborted by Emperor Chime and his bandits who masqueraded as security guards.
This is one case I expect well meaning rights activists to take up and ensure that Emperor Chime and his thugs are made to face the consequences of their actions. This is a big challenge to all qualified, sound and competent law graduates from Kogi State University, Anyigba. Chime must not be allowed to go scot free. You guys should institute legal action against him and his thugs.
I wish to equally call on the Captain Idris Wada led government to revisit this issue. An injury to one is injury to all. I understand late Mohammad Meyanga was an indigene of Egume, an ancient town in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi state.
Let me also call on all human rights bodies and personalities within and outside the shores of Nigeria to pick immense interest in this act of wickedness. Those involved in this callous and dastardly act must be brought to book. Enough of the reign of brigands and bandits. Already, justice has been delayed, but we must all make sure that justice is not denied. Since they mindlessly murdered sleep, all men and women of goodwill and conscience must equally ensure that they don't sleep as well.
Well, some have argued that governor Chime enjoys constitutional immunity which forbids him from being dragged to court, let us begin with his overzealous security who I believe don't enjoy no immunity. This is the way to go about getting justice for the dead and their respective families.
I equally expect the Professor Anslem Chidi Odinkalu led National Human Rights Commission's Board to be very much interested in this dastardly act. The media, civil society groups, faith-based and the almost comatose and complacent National Association of Nigerian Students to rally support for the families of the deceased students. We must put a final stop to increasing official rascality, brigandage recklessness. It beats ones imagination realising the fact that the same government whose responsibility it is to guarantee the safety of lives and property of its citizens also constitute huge threat to people it is supposed to protect.
We are calling on the Federal government, since the Kogi state government appears handicapped and unperturbed, to urgently set up an independent panel of inquiry to investigate the issue. Some of us who were live witnesses to the callous act are very much alive and are ever ready and willing to offer oral and documentary evidences should this call is heeded to.
Chime, while you are still battling with your self-inflicted problems, it is wise you retrace your steps to families you’ve offended, directly or indirectly and plead for forgiveness. It is possible for you still employ the same power you still wield to dry the cascading and endless tears on the face of Mohammad Meyanga’s poor mother and other families you’ve visited mindless terror on. Emperor Sullivan Chime, The clock is ticking".
