Philippines destruction 'absolute bedlam'!

The head of the Red Cross in the Philippines has described the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan as "absolute bedlam".

Officials estimate up to 10,000 people have died in Taclo
ban city and hundreds elsewhere. Hundreds of thousands of people are displaced.
The typhoon flattened homes, schools and an airport.
It has since made landfall in northern Vietnam, near the Chinese border, where it has weakened to a tropical storm.
Four million people have been affected in the Philippines, and many are now struggling to survive without food, shelter or clean drinking water.
A huge international relief effort is under way, but rescue workers have struggled to reach some towns and villages cut off since the storm.
"There's an awful lot of casualties, a lot of people dead all over the place, a lot of destruction," Richard Gordon, head of the Philippine Red Cross, told the BBC.

"It's absolute bedlam right now, but hopefully it will turn out better as more and more supplies get into the area."
He said roads had now been cleared to allow relief workers to get to the hardest hit areas, but that they expected to find many more casualties.
"It's only now that they were able to get in and we're beginning just to bring in the necessary food items... as well as water and other things that they need."
Forecasters predicted a tropical depression would move into the south and central Philippines on Tuesday, potentially bringing heavy rains that would further hamper relief efforts.

Jane Cocking, the humanitarian director for Oxfam, said her colleagues witnessed "complete devastation... entire parts of the coastline just disappeared, and sizable trees just bent over and [were] thrown about like matchsticks."
The latest report from the Philippines' Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council confirmed 255 deaths as of 22:00 GMT on Sunday. It said almost 630,000 people had been reported displaced.
But officials have warned that the number of dead will rise significantly.

Typhoon Haiyan - one of the most powerful storms on record to make landfall - swept through six central Philippine islands on Friday.
It brought sustained winds of 235km/h (147mph), with gusts of 275 km/h (170 mph), with waves as high as 15m (45ft), bringing up to 400mm (15.75 inches) of rain in places.
"The world has not seen a storm like this before," said Senen Mangalile, the Philippines Consul General to the UK.

Steven Godby, a disaster management expert at Nottingham Trent University, told the BBC the typhoon was "probably the most intense and strongest storm of this type to make landfall".
"We've seen storms like this perhaps on rare occasions that have had that kind of intensity out at sea but for it to come ashore with that kind of strength is almost unprecedented," Dr Godby said.
American military aircraft and ships are being deployed to provide help. US President Barack Obama has issued a message saying he was "deeply saddened by the loss of life and extensive damage".
Other countries have also pledged millions of dollars in assistance. Australia has approved $9m in humanitarian aid to the Philippines, while New Zealand has pledged over $1m.
Kristalina Georgieva the EU humanitarian aid commissioner, said relief efforts would be guided by three priorities.
"The first one is to get access to remote areas as quickly as possible, and the access issue is both transportation and also restoring telecommunications," she said

"The second, of course, is to get the immediate humanitarian assistance for people affected by this kind of disaster. And the next one would be shelter."
The relief efforts are being focused on the eastern province of Leyte and its capital Tacloban, where a massive storm surge flattened houses.
The typhoon - named "Yolanda" by Filipino authorities - wrecked up to 80% of structures in its path, police chief superintendent Elmer Soria told reporters.
Officials said looting was widespread and order was proving difficult to enforce.
Military spokesman Lt Col Ramon Zagala said that 100 soldiers had been deployed to help police prevent looting in Tacloban, AFP news agency reported.
Philippine President Benigno Aquino said there was a possibility that martial law or a state of emergency would be declared in the city.
In some areas, the dead are being buried in mass graves.
Typhoon Haiyan has now made landfall in Vietnam, near the tourist destination of Ha Long Bay, with sustained winds of up to 140 km/h (85mph).
Some 600,000 people were evacuated in northern provinces of the country.

Gov. Chime Opts For Divorce; Attempts To Eject Wife From State House “Detention”!

Sillivan Chime

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State yesterday attempted to eject his wife, Clara Chime, from her State House quarters over her decision to go public about his illegal detention of her.
In effect, Mrs. Chime would have regained the freedom she has been denied for months, and for which she has campaigned publicly in the past week.
The governor’s action followed a marathon meeting the governor held with Clara’s Igwe family, during which the governor decided to let her leave the government house.
However, insiders say Mrs. Chime said she would prefer to travel out, preferably to the United Kingdom, to take care of herself and then be allowed to return to her matrimonial home upon completion of her trip.
Sources at the meeting said the governor turned down that offer, instead telling the First Lady to pack out immediately.
Security sources said that her refusal to leave immediately led to an attempt to forcefully eject her from the government house.
Following Mrs. Chime’s refusal to leave unceremoniously, the governor relented and called for another emergency meeting of the family. The meeting was still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
On Friday, Governor Chime met with a delegation from the National Human Rights Commission for several hours to explain the reason for the confinement of the First Lady to a section of Government House.

Mrs. Chime’s public outcry was first reported by last week. In a letter, she complained she had been confined within Government House and had suffered depression. She subsequently also disclosed the harsh circumstances of her detention, including being threatened by the governor whenever she asked permission to leave.

Jonathan extends emergency rule in Adamawa, Yobe, Borno!

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has extended the current state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states by six months, even as Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State rejected the extension, describing it as unjustified and punitive.
Jonathan, in a letter dated November 5, 2013, to the Senate President, David Mark, seeking approval for the extension, explained that he took the decision because “some security challenges still exist in a few parts.”
However, he admitted that the security agencies, through the support of citizens in the affected areas, have achieved considerable successes in containing the activities of the terrorists.
He said by virtue of the provisions of Section 305(6) (C) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, the proclamation of emergency rule in the affected states will “elapse after a period of six months from the date of approval except the period is extended by the National Assembly.
As a result of the laudable efforts of our security agencies and the support of the citizens in the affected areas, we have achieved considerable successes in containing the activities of the terrorist elements. However, some security challenges still exist in a few parts.”
Consequently, it has become pertinent to request the approval of the distinguished Senate for an extension of the state of emergency for a further period of six months, during which time it is expected that normalcy would have been fully restored.
“In view of the foregoing, I most respectfully request the distinguished Senate to consider and approve, by resolution, the extension of the proclamation of the state of emergency by a further period of six months with effect from November 12.”
It will be recalled that the President, on May 11, 2013, declared emergency rule in the three states, following insurgency in the region.
Nyako reacts
Meanwhile, Governor Nyako, in a statement Wednesday, rejected the request by President Jonathan to extend the six-month-old state of emergency in the state, describing the action as unjustified and punitive.
The statement, which was signed by Nyako’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Sajoh, faulted the President for declaring a state of emergency in the state and asked the lawmakers to reject the request regarding Adamawa.
The governor said: “It is not fair for a President to be so disdainful towards the welfare of his people. We condemn any attempt to extend emergency rule in Adamawa State.
“As a government, we see the renewed bid for the imposition of a state of emergency in Adamawa as an affront on the people of the state and a negative reward for their endurance and cooperation so far.

“We call on the NASS to review the situation carefully and treat every state on its merit.”

10 things you might not know about love!

Lets take time out to reflect on these ten things we really might not know about love and find ways on building a heart full of love; because it ia an inevitable part of our life.

1. It can be hard to talk about love in scientific terms because people have strong pre-existing ideas about it.
The vision of love that emerges from the latest science requires a radical shift. I learned that I need to ask people to step back from their current views of love long enough to consider it from a different perspective: their body's perspective. Love is not romance. It's not sexual desire. It's not even that special bond you feel with family or significant others.
And perhaps most challenging of all, love is neither lasting nor unconditional. The radical shift we need to make is this: Love, as your body experiences it, is a micro-moment of connection shared with another.
2. Love is not exclusive.
We tend to think of love in the same breath as loved ones. When you take these to be only your innermost circle of family and friends, you inadvertently and severely constrain your opportunities for health, growth and well-being.
In reality, you can experience micro-moments of connection with anyone -- whether your soul mate or a stranger. So long as you feel safe and can forge the right kind of connection, the conditions for experiencing the emotion of love are in place.
3. Love doesn't belong to one person.
We tend to think of emotions as private events, confined to one person's mind and skin. Upgrading our view of love defies this logic. Evidence suggests that when you really "click" with someone else, a discernible yet momentary synchrony emerges between the two of you, as your gestures and biochemistries, even your respective neural firings, come to mirror one another in a pattern I call positivity resonance. Love is a biological wave of good feeling and mutual care that rolls through two or more brains and bodies at once.
4. Making eye contact is a key gateway for love.
Your body has the built-in ability to "catch" the emotions of those around you, making your prospects for love -- defined as micro-moments of positivity resonance -- nearly limitless. As hopeful as this sounds, I also learned that you can thwart this natural ability if you don't make eye contact with the other person. Meeting eyes is a key gatekeeper to neural synchrony.
5. Love fortifies the connection between your brain and your heart, making you healthier.
Decades of research show that people who are more socially connected live longer and healthier lives. Yet precisely how social ties affect health has remained one of the great mysteries of science.
My research team and I recently learned that when we randomly assign one group of people to learn ways to create more micro-moments of love in daily live, we lastingly improve the function of the vagus nerve, a key conduit that connects your brain to your heart. This discovery provides a new window into how micro-moments of love serve as nutrients for your health.
6. Your immune cells reflect your past experiences of love.
Too often, you get the message that your future prospects hinge on your DNA. Yet the ways that your genes get expressed at the cellular level depends mightily on many factors, including whether you consider yourself to be socially connected or chronically lonely.
My team is now investigating the cellular effects of love, testing whether people who build more micro-moments of love in daily life also build healthier immune cells.
7. Small emotional moments can have disproportionately large biological effects.
It can seem surprising that an experience that lasts just a micro-moment can have any lasting effect on your health and longevity. Yet I learned that there's an important feedback loop at work here, an upward spiral between your social and your physical well-being.
That is, your micro-moments of love not only make you healthier, but being healthier builds your capacity for love. Little by little, love begets love by improving your health. And health begets health by improving your capacity for love.
Making eye contact is a key gateway for love, Barbara Fredrickson says.

8. Don't take a loving marriage for granted.
Writing this book has profoundly changed my personal view of love. I used to uphold love as that constant, steady force that all but defines my marriage. While that constant, steady force still exists, I now see our bond as a product of the many micro-moments of positivity resonance that my husband and I have shared over the years. This shakes me out of any complacency that tempts me to take our love for granted. Love is something we should re-cultivate every single day.
9. Love and compassion can be one and the same.
If we reimagine love as micro-moments of shared positivity, it can seem like love requires that you always feel happy. I learned that this isn't true. You can experience a micro-moment of love even as you or the person with whom you connect suffers.
Love doesn't require that you ignore or suppress negativity. It simply requires that some element of kindness, empathy or appreciation be added to the mix. Compassion is the form love takes when suffering occurs.
10. Simply upgrading your view of love changes your capacity for it.
The latest science offers new lenses through which to see your every interaction. The people I interviewed for the book shared incredibly moving stories about how they used micro-moments of connection to make dramatic turnarounds in their personal and work lives.
One of the most hopeful things I learned is that when people take just a minute or so each day to think about whether they felt connected and attuned to others, they initiate a cascade of benefits. And this is something you could start doing today, having learned even just this much more about how love works.

I wish us the very best, as we find that special one to share our lives with; to those who already have found 'the one' don't take them for granted.

Lady Gaga to Sing In Outer Space In 2015!

It has been reported that Lady Gaga is officially taking her out-of-this-world performance style to the next level.

She hinted at the news on her Twitter page today, simply tweeting the hashtag
The 27-year-old pop star will sing in outer space in early 2015 before boarding a Virgin Galactic spaceship and being blasted into the ether. She’ll perform one song while orbiting the earth, and will have to train for a month prior to the event to make sure that her vocal cords can handle all the changes in atmospheric pressure.
Zero G Colony, a three-day hi-tech music festival, is set to take place at Spaceport America, New Mexico, and the climax of the even will feature the Mother Monster performing the first ever gig in outer space.
While some reports suggest Zero G Colony is a tech festival, it was learned the event is a high-concept ground event music festival, where guests will experience A-list entertainment, music, cutting-edge technology and futuristic attractions.
On the third day of the event, Lady Gaga will take off from the Spaceport on board a Virgin Galactic SpaceShip Two spacecraft and, upon reaching space, the singer will become the first ever-recording artist to perform outside the atmosphere, in zero gravity.

CHIME SULLIVAN AND WIFE CLARA DENIES HOUSE ARREST 'TALES'!

An interesting development to the on-going Clara Chime alleged house arrest.

Clara Chime wife of Enugu state governor Sullivan Chime has denied that she is under house arrest on Tuesday November 5,2013 in front of Journalists and family members.

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State vowed to protect the integrity of his wife, Mrs. Clara Chime who has denied sending any petition to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) alleging unlawful detention by her husband.
Mrs. Chime also denied contacting or engaging the services of Mr. Femi Falana or any other lawyer to seek her freedom from an alleged incarceration at Government House Enugu as the latter claimed in his letter to media houses and the Inspector-General of Police.
The governor and Mrs. Chime spoke to journalists, Tuesday night, at the Government Lodge, Enugu in the presence of Mrs. Chime’s elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe, the governor’s siblings, Mrs. May Oji and Dr. Jide Chime as well as Mrs. Chime’s neuro-psychiatric doctor, Dr. Aham Agumuo among few others. Governor Chime noted it was quite heart-aching for him to speak out publicly about his wife’s health challenges but insisted that he would do everything no matter the personal pains to protect her from ridicule.
Well, my wife has some medical challenges and it would be very unkind for me to talk about her condition on the pages of newspapers,” the governor said. “I’ve done everything to protect her integrity and I’m not now going to expose her to ridicule because some people want to exploit her situation to drag me into a needless war of words.
We’ve been battling this (Clara’s health challenges) prior to my inauguration in 2011. It was so bad at a time that she had to be taken out of here (Governor’s Lodge) for treatment. When she stabilized, I pleaded with her doctors if she could be brought back here to be receiving her treatment at home and they graciously accepted.
“There was a time she was confined indoors and that was strictly on her doctors’ advice. She’s here and she can confirm or deny it. Also, the doctors then advised against allowing her access to telephones and laptop.”At this point, the governor paused, heaved a deep sigh and continued his emotional narration. “I cannot say or do anything to undermine her dignity. She is, first and foremost, my wife. The big blunder I committed was allowing her access to the telephone and her laptop, against the advice of her doctor. I’m paying dearly for that today, going by what is happening now.
“Her brother is here, her doctor is here with us too. You people (journalists) can confirm anything you want from them, either here and at your convenience. Would I have been a better husband if I asked her to leave the Lodge because of her medical challenge? Would it not have been more convenient for me if I allowed her to stay and be treated in the hospital?
But like I said earlier, I wanted the best for her and that’s why I pleaded with the doctors to have her treated at home. That’s also why I allowed her access to her telephone and laptop which unfortunately led to the stage where I’m now being falsely accused of imprisoning or detaining my own wife.”
For quite a long time, Mrs. Chime could not speak, despite persuasions from her husband and brother. At a point, her brother, Tony Igwe took her to an adjacent room where they spent few our minutes before returning to join others.
Igwe now assured the rest people that she was willing to talk but it was another round of silence.
At last, Mrs. Chime said: “you (referring to the governor) and my doctor can speak on my behalf.”

The governor politely replied: “yes, I’m your husband and should ordinarily do so but you know I’m the one being accused of detaining you. This way, I’ve lost that privilege to speak for you, at least on this case. The story out there also is that your doctor is probably scared of me and gives you all kinds of drugs, sometimes against your wish.”
The wife of the governor said: “My doctor and I don’t have any problem.” On the petition to the National Human Rights Commission, Mrs. Chime corroborated an earlier text message she had sent to her husband that she had not met Falana or engaged him to seek her release from a purported unlawful custody.
Rather, she admitted that she wrote a letter to her doctor, Dr. Agumuo and another doctor overseas whom she was introduced to and wondered how the letter leaked to the public.
She also admitted that she was once confined to a room without access to her telephone and laptop. “That was when I had a serious crisis,” she says. Mrs. Chime also confirmed that she has the key to her room and controls her entry and exit, contrary to the claim in the petition that she had been locked up for asking to be allowed to leave.
Her grouse was that she had not been allowed to leave the premises, though she attended mass even last Sunday.
Governor Chime chipped in: “All I want to reassure you is that she is safe here. Her confinement within the premises for now is at the instance of her doctor who is here. Why would I want my wife locked up? If it had been that I had issues with her, there are many ways to resolve them. But that’s not the case. She is not well and I’m willing to do anything to support and protect her.
“It was always more convenient for me to have taken the easier route but that would have been very callous and ungodly. When I had my own health challenge, I was receiving treatment in London and thinking about her, making sure she received the right treatment. I’m forever grateful to her doctors who have done a great job. Both families are billed to meet very soon and after that, I’ll take a decision which will be in the interest of both parties.”
On his reaction to the petition to the IGP by Falana, the governor said: “He’s my professional colleague but sometimes you leave people to their conscience. I won’t join words with him. Has he met this client of his as he claimed to assess her state of mind and determine if she can give him the right brief to guide his case? Did he ask for access to her or to me and was denied? I leave it at that.
“That’s the penalty you face as a public officer. When I was receiving treatment in London, some of the newspapers reported that I had died in India. I’ve never been to India and had never applied for an Indian visa. Today, the story is that I’ve imprisoned my own wife in my residence.
I know their motives but I wish those behind such wicked tales well.”

However, in statement signed by the Coordinator of the CLO in the South-East Zone, the organization said the alleged treatment being meted out on Clara was uncivilized.
According to the statement, the CLO “condemn in an unequivocal terms the continuous unlawful detention of Mrs. Clara Chime the wife of the executive governor of Enugu State Mr. Sullivan Chime, who has been held captive by security details attached to the
Enugu state governor to protect the governor Mr. Sullivan Chime, Clara and the entire family”.
The statement entitled Continuous Unlawful Detention of Mrs Clara Chime at the Enugu State Government Lodge by Security Agents on the
Directives of Governor Sullivan Chime, Barbaric, Unlawful and Unconstitutional”
,
continued that “in view of the recent petition dated 1st November 2013, addressed to the Inspector General of Police by the Learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mr. Femi Falana demanding the immediate release of Mrs Clara Chime from her continued unlawful detention, we believe that this is the right time that all well meaning citizens of this great country should condemn this barbaric, uncivilised and unlawful act by a governor who is the chief security officer of the state.
“It should be noted that Mrs. Clara Chime freedom of movement and personal liberty has been curtailed since over four months ago by the security agents namely State Security Service (SSS) officials and policemen attached to the government house who have been acting on the directives of the state governor.
“It is submitted that this action of the governor is an affront on the constitutional guaranteed rights to freedom of movement and personal liberty enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which are also guaranteed rights under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ratification and Enforcement Act), Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004”.
“It is further submitted that this act is violates the “Convention To Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) (1981)” of which Nigeria is a party. The Convention defines discrimination against women as “…any distinction, exclusion or restriction made on the basis of sex which has the effect or purpose of impairing or nullifying the recognition, enjoyment or exercise by women, irrespective of their marital status, on a basis of equality of men and women, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field.” This Convention was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979 and was ratified in 1981.
“This matter goes beyond that of matrimonial issue and is an attack on women’s’ rights in this country. The “Matrimonial Causes Act” which is the law that governs matrimonial matters in the country laid down the procedures to be followed by an aggrieved spouse who wishes to divorce his or companion, but continuous detention, infringement on right to personal liberty and freedom of movement were never part of the law or sanctions provided by the law.
“This action by the governor constitutes a grave violation on the rights of women in Nigeria and setting a bad example in the country.
“We join the learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana in demanding the immediate release of Mrs Clara Chime from her continued detention by the security agents at the Enugu State government house acting on the directives of the state governor”, the statement added.

Only God knows the truth in this situation!

Well......we'l continue to keep you updated on this developments folks, as it is our custom.
