"We know of a lot of churches that are doing it," said Schaefer, "but we're hoping that a lot of churches that we don't know of are doing it."
Schaeffer said the prayer vigil were not just for him but for the gay community.
"People are called upon to pray for me as I prepare for trial, for my family, but also for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community at large, because this is for a cause. This is not just for an individual."
Schaefer could lose his ministry if he is convicted of violating church rules.  The United Methodist Church allows its members to be gay, but does not recognize marriage equality or allow LGBT people to join the clergy.
According to the Daily News, a group of over 30 United Methodist pastors in Pennsylvnia who support Schaefer say they will officiate a joint same-sex wedding.

Schaefer hopes that his church will reconsider its position on homosexuality, and credits his son with changing his own views:

"Everything changed for me when I learned that my oldest son was gay," he said.
"I think we need to look at this issue again. This is not just an issue of theology. This is an issue of life and death for our young people."
Schaefer said that as a teenager, his son considered suicide because of his struggle with his sexual identity.
"We, as parents and as Christians, rallied around him and affirmed him, and it brought him through some very rough times," he said.
Schaefer's trial will begin on November 18th 2013.

Four persons killed as MASSOB, security agents clash in Onitsha!

Four persons were allegedly killed when members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra  (MASSOB) clashed with the joint security team in Onitsha.

MASSOB leader, Ralph Uwazuruike

Though the MASSOB leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, who spoke through the Director for Information, Uchenna Madu, alleged that the recent killing of the members by the joint patrol team was not unconnected with the earlier stance that the movement would not support the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of  the Saturday governorship election in Anambra State.

Madu disclosed that the incident happened in the early hours of Monday when a joint team of the army, the police and men of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) stormed MASSOB headquarters on the Onitsha-Owerri road and allegedly opened fire on their members, which resulted in the death of four persons, while scores sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds.

He also disclosed that during the clash, over 87 persons were critically injured and were denied medical attention because of lack of police medical permits; about 18 vehicles belonging to MASSOB members and traders at Ngbuka-Obosi, Old Motor Spare Parts Obosi;137 motorcycles belonging to MASSOB members were burnt and N920,000 was taken by the security agents.

Other items allegedly destroyed during the raid included 23 bags of rice, four bags of beans, 11 bags of gari and 228 tubers of yam and other food items at MASSOB store were vandalised and burnt during the attack.

The MASSOB image maker also said 37 traders in the Old Motor Spare Parts, Mgbuka, also sustained bullet wounds and were taken to various hospitals for medical attention.

He alleged that the clampdown on their members was masterminded by the state government, which he accused of not being comfortable about their resolve to announce their preferred candidate ahead of the Saturday governorship election and dumping APGA and its candidate.

This devilish act of cowardice meted on MASSOB was not unconnected to our refusal to allow our name to be used by some desperate politicians who wanted to score cheap political goal, using our platform.

“We had issued a statement distancing ourselves from supporting APGA and its candidate ahead of the governorship election in the state. We are aware that the stand we took did not go down well with some highly placed persons in the state, hence, the attack was to disorganise us and browbeat us to submission".

However, when contacted for comments, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),  DSP Emeka Chukwuemeka, said he had not been officially briefed on the incident as of the time of filling this report.

"I’ll never return to Chime again, i will not wish my enemy to marry in that kind of place”- Wife!

A new development to the Chime saga alleged that Clara Chime told journalists on phone that she stood by her hubby-Sullivan Chime in the five months he was sick and out of the country because of her compassion and belief that the sickness would change his ways towards her. She however expressed her regrets that he got worse months after his return from
 cancer treatment abroad.

She claimed that she attempted to leave on so many occasions but her family members, for pecuniary reasons, insisted she stayed put even at times when it was obvious that the governor no longer wanted the marriage.
“I regained my freedom to move around on Saturday and I eventually forced my way out of that place (Government House) today (monday, Nov. 11th, 2013).”
“I am not the one who is sick, but I became sick because of the way I was treated. There are some things people would do to you that make you sick or even die.”
“After treating myself, I will never go back there again. I will not even wish my enemy to marry in that kind of place again.”
When contacted, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chuks Ugwuoke, said he just returned from Lagos and was not aware.
“I have been away in Lagos and cannot speak on anything I don’t know of, especially when it is a family matter. I will call you as soon as I am briefed,” Ugwuoke said.
