Blackout mars Christmas celebration in Lagos!

Many residents of Lagos State, especially in the Mainland, had their Christmas celebration without electricity.

 power-black-out

It was gathered that most of the areas affected were Ojota, Ketu, Mile 12, Palmgrove, Onipanu, Maryland, Bariga, Oshodi/Isolo, Mushin and Iyana Oworo, where residents said they have been having blackout since December 25.
Some of the residents expressed their displeasure at the new distribution companies’ inability to supply regular power supply to the metropolis and its environs.
Mr. Adeyinka Ayo, who resides at Mushin, said the privatisation of the power sector had not been beneficial to the citizens in spite of government’s efforts to make things work.
He said: “We have not seen in this manner before. There was light on December 24, although it was on and off till 7a.m. on Christmas day.
“Since then, up till this morning (yesterday), we have not seen light in any part of this area.”

Ketu, Island Similarly, Mr. Sunday Olarewaju, a resident of Ketu, said that the management of Ikeja DISCO had not given any explanation for the blackout.
According to him, “we do not know if electricity workers are on strike or not. In our usual way, we have checked the transformers and moved around but there is no sign that a major fault was responsible for the blackout.”
Olarewaju said the residents’ representatives were planning to go to the nearest DISCO office to demand an explanation for the blackout.
Mr. Adeloju Shokoya, a resident of Lagos Island, expressed regret that he and his family had a “harrowing experience celebrating Christmas without electricity.
“If there is light, you will not meet most of us outside. We would have been somewhere else watching films or football matches.
“I have been on generator since Christmas day with the hope that the Eko Distribution Company would soon restore electricity supply. Up till this morning (yesterday), we have not seen even the normal flashing they give us at times.”

Another Lagos Island resident, Mr. Adetola Williams, however, said that the people would continue to enjoy themselves, whether there was light or not.
He said: “PHCN or no PHCN; man must enjoy himself. Yesterday (Wednes-day), we were outside drinking and we used generators to power our musical sets to enjoy ourselves.
“From the look of things, we may do the same again today (yesterday) because l don’t understand this PHCN palaver anymore.
“You know they do what they like, but they cannot spoil our enjoyment and merriment in this Christmas period.”

Surulere area:In some parts of Surulere, specifically around Sanya and Aguda areas, the blackout attained a worrisome dimension as residents complained that Eko DISCO had adopted a frustrating tactic.
According to the residents, the distribution company brings the light and switch it off almost immediately, saying this goes on consistently throughout the whole day.
A resident of Airways Street, Ijeshatedo, Surulere, who gave his name as Mr. Wale Abiodun, said: “For example, the DISCO will restore power and take it back three minutes later.
“The annoying thing here is that this goes on almost every 30 minutes. When they bring the light, before you finish switching on your electrical appliances, they will plunge one back into darkness.
“This has been going on since the Federal Government announced that they have handed over PHCN to new investors.
Another resident, who corroborated the epileptic power situation, said residents of the area are planning to adopt drastic measures to check the excesses of the new owners.
According to the resident who refused to give out his name, “since the new owner has chosen to resort to wickedness, we have agreed to deal with their officials who bring those outrageous bills to our doorstep.
“Most of our home appliances have been damaged by the erratic power situation. They literally play with the light, switching it on and off at will.
Eko DISCO

However, an official of the Eko DISCO, Orile sub-station, blamed the erratic power situation on the new investors.
He said the new investors lack the experience to manage the power situation confronting the country.
The official blamed the blackout on the investors’ decision to install a relay on the supply grid, allegedly to forestall a system collapse.
He said: “We have told them to come and remove the relay so that power will stabilise and it will not ruin the machineries of businesses within our area of coverage.
“The relay cut off power supply to residents whenever there is a surge in power consumption.“The problem with the investors is that they fail to understand that what obtains in other part of the world may not work in Nigeria. They should consider the peculiar situation of Nigeria.”

At some DISCO offices in Ketu, Lagos Island and Fadeyi, only security men were on duty.
However, it was gathered from the security men that the workers were not on strike, but they were not certain if a major fault had been responsible for the blackout.

Police arrest 31 year old banker for allegedly stealing customer’s N50 million!

The Police Special Fraud Unit, SFU, has arrested one Adeola Olokojobi, an Account Officer with GTHOMES, a Central Bank of Nigeria licensed mortgage institution, for allegedly stealing N50 million from a customer’s account.
In a statement on Thursday in Lagos, the police said that a petitioner, who is a customer to the bank, had accused Mr. Olokojobi, his account officer, of not being forthcoming with his account balances.
Adeola Olokojobi
The petitioner also alleged that the balance given to him by Mr. Olokojobi, 31, was at variance with his actual balance in the account.
The bank internal investigation into the account showed a forged instruction by the account officer in April 2013 transferring the sum of N15 million to an unknown customer account,” the police said.
Also, the bank discovered other various fraudulent withdrawals made by the account officer from other customers’ accounts in his care through fake transfer instructions amounting to over N50 million,” the police added.
The suspect, who joined the bank in 2009 as an account officer, confessed to fraudulent withdrawals amounting to N50,640,748 from the account of the petitioner by transferring funds into the accounts of customers with forged signature and then withdrawing the money, the police said.
The funds were used to finance his political campaign, proposed pure water company, and purchase of an uncompleted building at Sango-Ota, Ogun State,” the police added.
In a related development, the SFU said that it has arrested one Hajara Egbra, a Technical Officer with the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, over a N25 million land scam.
Ms. Egbra, 45, and her accomplice, Mohammed Sadiq, have been charged with obtaining the money under false pretences and would be charged to court soon, the SFU said.
Mr. Sadiq, an Abuja based land developer, has jumped bail and efforts are still on to re-arrest him, the police added.
The SFU said that it acted upon a petition dated 5th June, 2013, in which the petitioner, a business woman, alleged that she purchased a plot of land, measuring 2,500 square meters, within Asokoro Extension, Abuja, on an agreed sum of N25 million from the suspect in 2009.
The payment was made in three installments of N10 million and N8 million. The suspect issued a receipt with invoice No. 0073 dated 29/09/2009 and Invoice No. 0201 dated 06/10/2009.
“The petitioner further alleged that the third payment of N5 million was paid through First Bank cheque No. 01795293 dated 19th December 2012. The petitioner stated that it was while she was trying to process the building plan and other related documents that she discovered that she has been duped,” the statement continued.
“The suspect actually sold to her a land that already has an owner. Also, the suspect gave her another plot which she had already fenced with the sum of N450,000 and was later told by the suspect that the plot is equally not vacant,” the statement added.
The police stated that Ms. Egbra, who hails from Okene in Kogi State, also owns a shop at Garki Modern Market, Abuja.
She confessed the allegation levelled against her of obtaining the sum of N25 million from the petitioner. That she gave the sum of N18.5 million to one Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, a developer, while the remaining balance is for her services,” the police said.
Mohammed confessed collecting the sum of N18.5 million from Hajara and has jumped the police bail.”

‘Please reconsider me’: Deposed Deji of Akure writes 18-page letter to Mimiko!

Following the death of the Deji of Akure, Adebiyi Adesida on November 30 after only 3 years on the throne,
Late Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adesida
his predecessor Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina is said to have pleaded to the Governor of Ondo, Olusegun Mimiko to reinstate him.
Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina and late olori Bolanle Adepoju Adesina

The deposed former Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina, has written an emotional letter of consideration to the Ondo state government to reinstate him as the paramount ruler.
Mr. Adepoju was deposed after this website revealed his battery of his wife, Olori Bolanle, in May 2010.

His battered wife took ill and subsequently died in July 2011. Mr. Adepoju then relocated to the United Kingdom.
Olori Bolanle Adepoju Adesina, Brutalized Wife Of The Deposed Deji Of Akure, Dies

In the letter, obtained exclusively by SaharaReporters through his lawyer, Barrister Olusola Oke, the deposed Deji appealed to Governor Olusegun Mimiko, for whom he claimed to have worked tirelessly during his election campaign, to consider his plea.
“I must passionately plead with your Excellency to remember how well I stood behind you and fought with you towards ensuring that you won the election and to ensure that you also recovered your stolen mandate,” he said.
Recounting how he was deposed from the town because he allegedly poured a concoction on his estranged late wife, Olori Bola Adepoju Adesina, he said the avoidable communication gap was the reason behind the widely-reported incident.
He claimed that the escalated fracas between him and the late Olori was misconstrued by the press which, he also alleged, refused to report his own version of the story.
Dr Ige Ogunleye, the Chairman of the Osupa Ruling house which Adesina hails from, confirmed receipt of the letter, but he declined further comment.
Many sources in the ruling house disclosed that the letter comes at an important time, as the Deji throne is vacant. SaharaReporters had earlier gathered from a kingmaker in the palace that the Osupa Ruling House is the next family to present candidates for the throne.
We also learnt that chiefs in Akure will this week complete traditional rites for the late Oba Adebiyi Adegboye Adesida. A source revealed that the daughter of the deceased, Princess Adetutu, is expected to be installed as Regent of Akure pending the emergence of a new king.
The palace source said that the belated installation was on account of family exigencies.
“The issue is that Princess Adetutu was nursing her baby when the sudden death of her father was pronounced. But immediately after the whole rites she might will be installed as the regent of the kingdom this week or early in the New Year,” the source said.
With just 23 days since the death of Adebiyi Adesida, the jostling for the throne has begun at a frantic pace, with members of the Osupa Ruling House lobbying kingmakers for the vacant seat.
While some seem to favour the return of the deposed Adesina to the throne, others object, fearing victimisation should he re-emerge the king.
Dated December 19, the letter was addressed to Governor Olusegun Mimiko through his Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN).

It was copied to the Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi; the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Samuel Adesina; the State Chief Judge, Sehinde Kumuyi; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bamiduro Dada; and the Akure Council of Chiefs through Lisa of Akure, High Chief James Olusoga.

Ecobank Staff slices Husband’s Penis With Knife!

A staff of Eco Bank Plc, Mrs. Bimbo Ajetumobi Daniju (pictured with husband),
has been arrested for slicing her husband’s penis with knife.

According to source, the banker, a staff with the Agege Motor
Road branch of Eco Bank, on Monday morning, sliced her husband’s manhood in a fit of anger.

It was said that Bimbo picked a quarrel with her husband on Sunday,
16th December, 2013, on account of his inability to provide for the needs of the family. She accused him of being selfish, not bothering to find out how she and their only child are faring following her demand for feeding allowance.

Trouble reportedly started on 16 December, 2013 when the banker who is a staff of the Agege Motor Road branch of the bank, accused her husband who has just returned from the church, of failing to provide for the needs of the family and leaving her to do everything. She also accused him of being selfish and uncaring.

She reportedly shouted at Olalekan who was eating and when he didn’t answer, poured his plate of food on his head. She took a bucket found in the room and smashed it on his head. This resulted in fighting.

Their neighbours separated them and Olalekan went to his sister’s shop to seek refuge but not done yet Bimbo allegedly followed him there and threatened to stab him with a broken bottle.

Relatives and neighbours, it was gathered, intervened and pleaded with the couple to give peace a chance but the couple continued to live like a cat and mouse.

Madam Kehinde Daniju, sister of Olalekan told P.M.NEWS that when her brother ran to her for help, she had to call their mother and other relatives to settle the matter for them in the family house they lived.

She explained that Bimbo’s mother who also lived around the area came and told her daughter not to accept reconciliation until Olalekan got a job. She blamed the couple’s constant disagreement on Olalekan’s refusal to get a job.

When she was leaving she took along the couple’s only son, Opeoluwa Daniju.

This did not go down well with Olalekan who ordered his wife to go to her mother’s house and bring his son before 8 p.m. or there would be trouble.

It was said that Bimbo left the house before 8 p.m and returned 30 minutes later without Opeoluwa.
This resulted in another round of fighting during which neighbours and relatives intervened again to separate them.

Narrating his story, Olalekan said he woke her up on Sunday to ask what she would be wearing to the church so that he could iron it but she didn’t reply.
I picked up my son’s cloth, ironed it, bathed him, had my bath and left both of them at home and went to church. In between the service, I came home to check on them and I met her cooking, I even joked that thank God there’s something for them to eat.

"I went back to church and after the service I was I hungry I bought bread and beans to eat and as I got inside, my boy told me he also wanted to eat bread and I gave it to him.

When she learnt that I gave the boy bread, she said I didn’t bother to ask her where she got money to prepare the rice that she ate and she started calling me several unprintable names.
“I responded again and this time it was a huge mistake. She just came near me, carried the plate of beans and pour the food on my head. She held my tie shouting and cursing me at the same time. I managed to extricate myself from her grip and ran out. She nearly suffocated me with the tie. She pursued me and broke a plastic bucket on my head but I continued to run. She picked up a bottle, broke it and threatened to stab me with it. This is a woman that is about five month pregnant.
“I ran to my sister’s shop and tried to involve her but she stayed out of the matter because they all know that she is rude, stubborn and violent. There was a day she and her brothers came here with thugs from Ojuelegba they wanted to beat up everybody here. She has chased me on the street with all sort of dangerous things. I don’t really know what she wants to achieve with all this but that day, her mum came, my mum’s sister came also and they tried to resolve the whole thing.

“I saw my mum’s sister off and before I came back, my mother-in-law had taken my son away and I was like we are trying to solve one issue and you are trying to cause another problem. I told her that if by 8p.m. that evening my child is not back home, she would not find it funny.

“I said that to make her know that I was serious but she said that there’s nothing I can do. She left the house before 8p.m. and came back 30 minutes later without my son. She took her bath and went to sleep I went to my sister and told her I am going to my mother-in-law’s house to get my child but my family ask me not to go there. At that time, I was tired, confused and hungry. I picked up my laptop but while I was trying to watch a movie I fell asleep in the sitting room.

“She woke me up at about 2a.m.. I was in a pair of boxer shorts. She told me that it is either I kill her or she kills me and within seconds she had torn my shorts. This was not surprising anyway as she had torn many of my clothes in the past. She said ‘I am going to kill you this morning. You think I am joking’. The whole thing happened so fast I just felt her hand in holding my penis, and the next thing was blood flowing. I started shouting and crying for her to take me to the hospital.

“She said ‘hospital ke, that’s where you are going to die today’ and that was the last time I saw her. I don’t know how she left the house at that time of the night. She changed her clothes, took a big bag and left, only for us to see her two days later at the police station.
There and then, I decided I cannot continue living with her, she could just decide to put poison in my food and kill me one day.

“It’s only a person that’s alive that can explain anything. She could just poison me and cook up a story just like she did at the police station where she told the police officers that I woke her up at 2a.m. and started hitting her, almost beating her to death and the officers clapped for her for a lovely story. The officers asked how come I did all that and she had the strength to run away and she didn’t run to the hospital, that is, someone that was almost being beaten to death should go to the hospital and there was no doctor’s report. The person you injured brought his own medical report, we could see that the injury was bandaged.
“The officers told her that there’s no mark on her to signify being beaten, she replied that she didn’t go to any hospital because there was no mark on her she also claimed that she didn’t use any knife but that she used her fingernails to scratch my penis,” he said.

Efforts to speak with Bimbo at her mother’s home proved abortive as reporter was prevented from talking to her.

Discretion advised pls:

Lekan’s elder brother called his elder sister that Lekan had been injured by
his wife following bouts of shouting and noise. It was gathered that
Lekan was taken to a private clinic where he was treated, while Bimbo was arrested and taken to the police station.

In her statement at the police station, Bimbo denied using knife on her husband but her fingernails. She has since been released as Lekan said he is not interested in pressing charges.

Bimbo who is said to be rude, stubborn and troublesome was alleged to have
taken away some home appliances and all of Lekan’s certificates and allied
documents.
