Britain - No respite from floods as wind and heavy rain are forecast for the weekend!

Windswept: Strong winds whip up huge waves battering the coast at Seaburn near Sunderland, on Thursday as Britain experienced a 'short, sharp shock' of colder temperatures

More waves of bad weather to sweep in from the west throughout the weekend, with Spring tides set to remain high and winds continuing to gust at more than 50mph.

Homes have been evacuated in coastal areas as Britain braces for dangerous flooding as severe winds sweep in from the Atlantic.

The Environment Agency has issued 21 of its most serious flood warnings advising of flooding and a risk to life across Wales and England.

Close call: The two men try and run from the pier in Hartlepool after it is battered by the waves on Thursday

Soaking: But they still get drenched after the waves crash over the sides of the pier

Hard to see: Vehicles negotiate their way along the M25 in Brentwood Essex in perilously poor visibility

Forecasters warned there would be no respite from the bad weather and floods this weekend as high tides, strong winds and heavy rain continue.
Streets and homes have been flooded in coastal areas as high spring tides and gale force winds swept in from the Atlantic and heavy rain fell on already sodden part of the country.

INSANITY!

Disillusioned Perspective

What a great difference that exists, yet most similar
She stands there as if waiting for something, but nothing seems coming forever,
Looking so helpless, yet accompanied by great powers ready to fight and protect,
Moving to and fro as if on a senseless sojourn, yet in business more serious than those of any,
..... Insanity - life in another world.

She keeps on living as though immune to death,
Facing risks to the face more boldly than any sane one,
Wonder what goes on in her subconscious, think she’s with full coherence
.....Insanity - life in another world.

Sanity moving past her as though they were more important,
Yet to the supernatural, she stands as important as all
Maybe just filling up a gap that has been created to be filled
How I wish we could all live as one

......Insanity - life in another world.

Thirteen Stories That Shaped the World in 2013- U.S Department of States!

In 2013, as more people than ever sought their news through social media, the State Department expanded its digital engagement.  Our goal was, and remains, to find ways to give you more access to foreign affairs information and more opportunities to offer your opinions.

Here are 13 stories from 2013 that shaped our world, as told through social media.

1. The Passing of Nelson Mandela (December):
Dr. Maya Angelou, on behalf of the United States,  sent this touching poetry tribute as a special message to the people of South Africa after the passing of one of the world’s greatest leaders. The tribute has been seen by over 1,000,000 people.

2. Direct Contact with Iran (September):
For the first time in 34 years, a U.S. President talked directly to an Iranian President by telephone.  Later that week, Secretary Kerry sent what has been called a “historic tweet” about the shift.

3. Syrian Chemical Weapons Deal (September):
With the issue of American involvement in Syria dominating the news, Secretary Kerry explained the situation directly to the American public in a Google+ Hangout with the New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof and Syria Deeply's Lara Setrakian.  The event also included questions from American schoolteachers who are affiliated with a U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum education program.  Two weeks later, the international community reached a deal to dismantle Syria’s chemical weapons.

4. Israeli-Palestinian Peace Talks (July):
After three years without direct negotiations, Israelis and Palestinians resumed talks on a final status peace agreement.  As part of this effort, Secretary Kerry personally made 11 trips to the region this year.

5. Disability Rights (December):
The Disability Rights Treaty (CRPD) may soon come up again for ratification in the U.S. Senate, after narrowly not passing in 2012.  In this Google+ Hangout with Judy Heumann and Michelle Kwan, paraolympic athletes talked about what the Disability Rights Treaty would mean for them when they travel and for all disabled people around the world.

6. Typhoon Haiyan (November):
Following the destruction wrought by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Secretary Kerry encouraged people to donate to the relief effort by contributing an “unselfie” to the worldwide effort to inspire charitable contributions on #GivingTuesday.  For his "unselfie," the Secretary held a piece of paper highlighting the website that contains information about donations for typhoon victims.

7. Combatting Climate Change (November):

After two intense weeks of climate change talks in Warsaw, all countries agreed to announce their commitments to a new global climate agreement by early 2015. The United States is already working on its contribution. In this animated illustration on Tumblr, we see the dramatic increase in temperature anomalies worldwide in the last century.

8. Egyptian Transfer of Power (July):
Since the removal from power of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, supporters and opponents of the new government have clashed repeatedly. The United States has called for nonviolence and respect for human and civil rights on both sides.  In this picture from our Flickr photostream, Secretary Kerry speaks with the General Sisi of the interim government about the importance of a having a democratically elected government that is brought about through inclusive, free, and fair elections.

9. China-U.S. Cooperation (April):

Battered pregnant woman: Govt takes over welfare!

There are indications that some officials, said to be from the Lagos State Government, on Thursday took over the welfare of Alexandra Ossai, a former employee with Toppan Printing Company.

Alexandra Ossai
Ossai lost her seven-month pregnancy after she was allegedly kicked in the stomach by her manager.
It was learnt that the officials from the state Ministry of Women Affairs visited Mercy Hospital at Fagba, where Ossai was being treated, to pay off her medical bills.
It was learnt that the officials also wanted to move Ossai to a government guest house at Ayobo where she could be cared for while recuperating. The gesture could not, however, be effected because of a doctor’s appointment that Ossai had on Friday (today).
Her lawyer, Mr. Courage Erhuen, confirmed the development.
He said, “I got a call from Ossai that some officials of the government had come to visit her at the hospital. They had paid her bills and wanted to move her to another place at Ayobo where she could recuperate.
“I was not at Fagba at the time; I explained that it was not convenient as I had made arrangements to take her to a general hospital tomorrow for medical examination. The medical report we have from Mercy Hospital cannot be tendered in court because it is a private hospital. So, we need a new one from a General hospital.
“They told me they would come back on Friday when we must have been through at the General hospital.”
Erhuen also added that the surgeon who operated on Ossai and the Director of Mercy Hospital had already made their statements to the police.

PUNCH Metro had on December 24, 2013 reported that 34-year-old Ossai had undergone emergency surgery, four days after she was allegedly assaulted by her boss,KavehNoine.  Noine was later arrested by the Lagos State Police Command in Kano where he had allegedly fled to for safety.

It was gathered that the Office of the Deputy Governor via the ministry waded into the issue following a letter from Ossai to the state, which was submitted through the Lagos State Public Advice Centre.
The Public Relations Officer of the PAC, Mr. Alex Omorodion said, “Ossai and her lawyer filed some petitions through the PAC to the state government. As a result, the office of the Deputy Governor has decided to take over her welfare until she regains her health. Meanwhile, we are doing everything possible on the legal end to ensure that Ossai gets justice.”
