Alamieseigha drops unsettling message to CONFAB!

Former Governor of Bayelsa State, and a delegate representing the Niger Delta and other oil producing states at the National Conference, Chief Diepreye Alamieseigha allegedly delivered a worrisome message to the CONFAB.
The message below:
The leadership of oil producing communities visited me at the weekend and have asked me to convey this information to the management and the delegates of this conference, that in the past 58 years, a minimum of 1.8 to 2 million barrels of crude oil had been extracted from their land on daily basis.
“The consequence is that they have started experiencing earth movements in their environment and there is fear that there is going to be earthquake or tsunami very soon in their land”.
“In other jurisdictions, when this volume of oil is removed, liquid of same gravity is being injected to equalise or stabilise the geology of the area.
“In recent times, there was gas flaring off the coast of Balyesa for over a month, the heat was so much that all the villagers were evacuated. For one month the oil companies could not clamp the gas flaring.
“So, they fear that they don’t have the capacity to withstand any earthquake in that environment and that I should inform you all, that they may take the option, I repeat, they will take the option of shutting down oil production in those areas till concrete agreement or arrangements is made with the oil companies to warrant the injection of stabilising the environment.”

Goodluck Jonathan says #BringBackOurGirls campaign is 'Political'!

According to BBC news, President Goodluck Jonathan has accused activists of "playing politics" after his meeting with parents of the abducted schoolgirls was called off.
The #BringBackOurGirls group should be ashamed of manipulating "the victims of terrorism", he said.
It was gathered that President Jonathan agreed to the meeting on Monday following an appeal by Pakistani rights campaigner Malala Yousafzai. His first meeting with some of the girls' parents on was reportedly due to hold on Tuesday.
Reports says President Jonathan planned to meet 12 parents and five girls who escaped shortly after being captured but the parents withdrew at the last minute without giving any reason.
"Unfortunately, political forces within the Nigerian chapter of Bring Back Our Girls have decided to take this opportunity to play politics with the situation and the grief of the parents and the girls. They should be ashamed of their actions," he said in a statement.
"Those who would manipulate the victims of terrorism for their own benefit are engaging in a similar kind of evil: Psychological terrorism," he added.
Spokesman to the President Doyin Okupe said the President was "extremely distraught".

Kurds enter Syria from Turkey to fight jihadists!

Hundreds of Kurdish fighters have entered northern Syria to help battle jihadists besieging the Kurdish city of Ain al-Arab, a monitor said Tuesday.
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP that "At least 800 Kurdish fighters crossed the Turkish-Syrian border to help their comrades in Ain al-Arab (Kobane in Kurdish), which is under total siege by Islamic State jihadists,"
A Kurdish Syrian activist said the flow of fighters came as the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), blacklisted in Turkey as a terrorist organisation, gave orders for Kurdish fighters to move to protect Kobane.
"Fighters started going into Kobane from Turkey some four or five days ago," said Havidar, who goes by only one name.
"But the latest entry, last night, came after orders from the higher leadership of the PKK. Last night, there were celebrations in Kobane -- fighters were firing into the air as they arrived in the town," he told AFP.
The Observatory's Abdel Rahman also said the mobilisation had come after a call by the PKK, which has branches in Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria.
"The Kurds are preparing for an assault by the Islamic State," he said.
Syrian Kurds have been fighting the IS for many months.
"But this is the first time that the jihadists appear to be advancing while the Kurds are suffering real setbacks. That is because IS has brought in a lot of weapons from Iraq," said Havidar, referring to weapons seizures from the Iraqi army amid an IS offensive there.
"Kurds going in to fight are from everywhere -- Turkey, Iran, Syria and others. Even some Kurds based in Europe are saying they want to go fight," he added.
Kobane, under siege by advancing IS troops, is important because it is located between Raqa -- the jihadists' main bastion -- and Aleppo, where IS has made recent advances.
"The situation is certainly going to get worse before it gets any better," said Havidar.
The IS proclaimed an Islamic "caliphate" in late June, straddling Syria and Iraq.
Once welcomed in Syria by some rebels seeking President Bashar al-Assad's ouster, the jihadist group's systematic abuses and quest for domination turned the opposition against it.
Rebels launched an offensive against the IS in January this year, but Kurdish Syrians, whose towns are located along Syria's border areas, have been fighting the jihadists for longer.
Havidar said: "IS is fighting the Kurds not for religious or ethnic reasons -- it simply wants their territory because it is strategically located along the borders, and because it is near IS bastions."
Abdel Rahman added: "It's a life-or-death battle for the Kurds. If IS takes Ain al-Arab, it will advance eastwards towards other Kurdish Syrian areas, such as Hasakeh in the northeast."

Oscar Pistorius in nightclub altercation!

Oscar Pistorious was reportedly involved in an altercation at a nightclub just days after his lawyers wound up their defence in his murder trial.
His spokeswoman, Anneliese Burgess, said the athlete was in a quiet booth in the VIP section of a club in Johannesburg's upmarket Sandton district when a man "started to aggressively interrogate him on matters relating to the trial".
An argument ensued in which my client asked to be left alone. Oscar and his cousin left soon afterwards. Oscar regrets the decision to go to a public place and thereby invite unwelcome attention." She added.
Burgess said the individual concerned "has now been identified as a Mr Mortimer". South Africa's Star newspaper named him as businessman Jared Mortimer, who offered a different version of Saturday night's events of and claimed Pistorius was drunk.
Mortimer said he reacted after Pistorius, who is free on bail, made disparaging comments about Mortimer's friends and the family of president Jacob Zuma. "I took that personally because I am very good friends with a member of the Zuma family," Mortimer was quoted as saying.
He added that Pistorius was intoxicated and started getting aggressive. "He was poking me and saying that I would never get the better of him. He was close to my face and at that point I pushed him to get him away from me – and he fell to the ground."
The VIP Room club, was hosting an exclusive birthday party called the Superhero Squad and many of the guests wore superhero costumes. The club's website says it caters to the "nouveau riche" and invites guests to "slip on your diamante dancing shoes or designer suit and dance the night away at the most ostentatious venue in Joburg."
The club manager insisted "everything is being blown out of proportion''. "I was sitting with him [Pistorius] and his cousin at their table. They were there for an hour and there was definitely no 'altercation' as this person is making out. Perry Mermigas reportedly told South Africa's Times newspapars
"He was chilling with his cousin, nothing more and nothing less. If there was something, like what is being described, we would definitely have got involved. What I can say is that Oscar was at the club and left, like any other normal patrons, after an hour."
Hours after the incident, On Sunday, Pistorius tweeted for the first time in five months, posting a Bible verse, a collage of pictures of his humanitarian work and an extract from Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl's book Man's Search for Meaning.
