Contrary to Amnesty International report that no fewer than 2000 people were mascaraed by the the boko-haram insurgent group in the Northern Nigerian town of Baga, the Nigerian Military says the casualty figures from that attack is at 150.
This was revealed by the spokes person for the Nigerian Military Defence, Major General Chris Olukolade. According to him, “From all available evidences, the number of people who lost their lives during that attack has so far not exceeded about 150 in the interim. This figure includes many of the terrorists who were bearing arms and got killed in the course of their attack and battle with troops,” He said.
The Military also added that no portion of Nigeria’s territory has been or will be conceded to terrorists.
The nation's emergency management agency reportedly noted that they are currently engaged in providing supports for displaced persons.
Be it 2000 people as reported by Amnesty International or 150 people as counter reported by the Nigerian Military, the fact remain that life, is snuffed out of these Nigerians with the highest cruelty ever imagined. Something needs to be done, and fast too. Thomas Edison said “Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.”
