Buhari, Others, Mourn HID Awolowo !

Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has joined thousands of Nigerians at home and in diaspora, to morn the Late HID Awolowo. 

In a statement released on Saturday, September 19th, through the office of the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President said he  received the news with immense sadness, exhorting the late matriarch of the Awolowo family, Buhari said: 

"Chief (Mrs.) Awolowo will always be honoured for the indelible legacy of very significant, behind-the-scene contributions to communal, state, regional and national development which she has left behind". - Buhari

Chief (Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo - nee Adelana, wife of the late sage and first premier of the old Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, passed onto the great beyond on Saturday, September 19th, 2015, around 3:15pm, after a brief ailment, at her country home in Ikenne, Ogun State, and few weeks to her 100th birthday which is November 25. She was aged 99.

Police Brutality- Officer Kills Nursing Mother In Lagos!

Tricycle drivers otherwise called 'Keke-Napep drivers' in Isheri- Osun area of Lagos State recently staged a protest with placards and inscriptions like ‘Isheri Police, your generation will suffer,’ ‘Stop killing us,’ as they protested over the attack on one of their colleagues, who was a victim of Police's indiscriminate shooting. 

Reports has it that the commercial tricycle driver identified as Godwin Ekpo and his wife Idongesit Ekpo were on their way home from a mid-week church service, when he ran into an eight man team of Police officers extorting money from tricycle riders at a check-point mounted around Obalagbe bus stop in Isheri at about 10pm Wednesday, September 16.

While trying to avoid the Police men, Godwin attempted to speed past the check-point, but mistakenly brushed their patrol van. A move which infuriated the officers,  one of the officers hit the tricycle’s windscreen with a baton and damaged it, while a corporal in the team identified as Aremu Musesiu, opened fire at his tricycle. The bullet shattered the tricycle, killing Mrs Ekpo who was breastfeeding their 3 month old baby at the time. The bullet further pierced through Godwin's neck as he turned to look at his wife and his child.

Realizing the extent of their action, the officers took to their heels, unfortunately for the 'trigger-happy' officers, residents quickly formed a crowd at the scene and prevented them from leaving. Out of fear, the officers called for reinforcement, and officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and other Policemen from nearby divisions arrived the scene and rescued them.

The remains of the deceased has been deposited at a mortuary while the children of the couple are with the Police where they being catered for.

The Lagos state Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, said the officer who fired the shot that killed Mrs Ekpo have been arrested, while the DPO of Isheri Osun had also been issued a query for disobeying the Inspector General of Police’s instruction. 

Corruption Charges - Fedreal Ministry Of Justice Pushes For Saraki's Arrest!

This might not be the best of times for the Nigerian Senate President, and ex- Governor of Kwara State Dr. Bukola Saraki, as the Federal Ministry of Justice has asked the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja to issue bench warrant for his arrest, after he ignored the tribunal summon on a 13 count charges of corruption brought against him.

Senator Saraki was billed to be arraigned on Friday, September 18, but on Thursday, September 17, he sent his team of lawyers, to serve the tribunal with a copy of the ruling of Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court - Abuja, which summoned the Ministry of Justice,  the Tribunal's Chairman: Justice Danladi Umar, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, Mr. Sam Saba, and Mr. Hassan who signed the charge against Saraki; ordering them to appear on Monday September 21, to show cause why the trial should be allowed to proceed.

Buhari Reinstates Administration's Commitment To Correct Infrastructural Gaps In Nigeria!

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on September 15th, met with Mr. Patrick Pouyanné, Total Plc's CEO, & Mr. Guy Maurice, Senior VP Africa E&P and other French and Nigerian CEOs at the Investment Forum held at the MEDEF Headquarters in Paris.



In his speech, President Buhari reinstated his administration's commitment to redress the serious infrastructural gaps in Nigeria.

I Have Felt Used By people - Pope Francis, As He Condemns Religious Fundamentalists!

Pope Francis in a recent radio interview stated that he has never had as many "friends" as he does now, though he has met many of them only once.
"I have felt used by people who presented themselves as my friends and whom I hadn't seen more than once or twice in my life. They have used that to their own benefit." He said. 

Condemning what he termed humanity's "abuse of creation,"  Pope Francis said of religious fundamentalists, "Their mission is to destroy in the name of an idea, not a reality . . . They kill, attack, destroy, malign in the name of an ideological god." 




Despite his well-deserved reputation for compassion, Francis with biblical instances stated that he is clearly willing to confront those with whom he disagrees.


When David was fleeing from King Saul, he sought help from a priest named Ahimelech. However, he did not tell the priest that Saul was pursuing him. Nor did he confront a man named Doeg the Edomite, though he later admitted, "I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul" (1 Samuel 22:22). As a result, Doeg killed Ahimelech and 85 priests as well as the inhabitants of the town where they lived. David's decision to avoid conflict led to much worse conflict.

The prophets consistently condemned the sins of their culture. Jesus threw moneychangers from the temple and exposed the hypocrisy of the religious authorities. Paul confronted those who demanded that Gentile converts to Christianity be circumcised, using language so stern I won't repeat it here (see Galatians 5:11-12). One day we will each stand before God, where he will "test what sort of work each one has done," and we will receive or lose eternal reward as a result (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).

God is not conflict avoidant. At the same time, "God is love" (1 John 4:8). We can conclude that love and conflict are not necessarily in conflict. In fact, the most loving thing we can sometimes do is to speak the truth as boldly and plainly as possible.

How?

First: Be compassionate. In response to the sins of our nation, God calls us to "sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it" (Ezekiel 9:4).

Second: Stay close to God. The psalmist noted, "Blessed are the people . . . who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face" (Psalm 89:15). Walk with Jesus so that people see his character in yours.

Third: Say what God says to you. Make the prophet's pledge yours: "As the Lord lives, what my God says, that I will speak" (2 Chronicles 18:13).

Fourth: Trust God to use your words to change your world. Human words cannot transform human hearts, but God's word "shall accomplish that which I purpose" (Isaiah 55:11).

It's been said that "the worst crime of the desert is knowing where the water is and not telling." If we're living in a moral desert, what is our greatest privilege?
