Life threatening flooding of residential and business areas around the Lagos Metropolis, especially at the Ikoyi, Victorial Island and Lekki Peninsula axis has been the norm, during the rainy seasons.
Over
time, the state government has come up with different schemes to curb
this situation. It is no longer news that this catastrophic situation is majorly caused by- blocked gutters and canals, construction buildings on spaces supposed to be for canals or even Lakes.
How can such situation be arrested when spaces
supposed to be for the construction of canals, are constantly been
allocated or sold for construction purposes.
The picture below shows how part of the canal space, which was supposed to run across Mobil road area, opposite the Emerald Estate and which should have run through the Ikota community, has been blocked.
