Bieber told to clean up his act!

Bad-boy Justin Bieber has been told to clean up mess he made in Australia.

In Australia on his last final of his monster 14-month 'Believe' tour, Justin Bieber was told by the mayor of Gold Coast to clean up his act. The admonition came after Bieber, with his gang, spray painted a wall near their hotel.



Mayor Tom Tate spoke to media about the spray-painting and acknowledged that when young "all of us have done something not tasteful, but at the very least we've all done something to rectify what we've done wrong." Not so the Biebs, or not so far.

Mayor Tate also objected to Bieber boasting about the graffiti on social media and said he didn't want such behavior to influence the young people of Gold Coast or of nearby Brisbane. 

He invited Bieber to return to Gold Coast and remove the graffiti and said that the materials needed would be supplied for him.

Bieber is in the midst of a 7- show tour of Australia before he'll return home next week. The graffiti is of colorful faces with big eyes; one has a hint of First Nations art to it.

Alarming......409 Nigerians in South African jail- Hon. Abike Dabiri- Erewa!

The House of Representatives, recently condemned the ill-treatment and discrimination against Nigerians living in South Africa, stressing that at least more than 409 were currently serving jail terms in the country.

Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this in a statement issued after the committee’s visit to two prisons in South Africa.

She described the increasing number of Nigerians in foreign prisons as “ridiculously embarrassing.”

Dabiri-Erewa, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos State, who visited the prisons alongside two members of the committee, Ajibola Famurewa and Umaru Shidanfi, consular officers of the Nigerian Embassy and executives of the Nigerian Union in South Africa, disclosed that over 400,000 Nigerians were currently living in South Africa.

During her interaction with some inmates, the lawmaker explained that some of them confessed that they had been denied their freedom, despite completing their jail terms.

“The inmates complained of extreme discrimination by the prison authorities in South Africa. The law enforcement officers always maltreat citizens of Nigeria for unjustifiable reasons.

“Sometimes, the authorities tore into pieces their Nigerian passports among several other allegations and refused to grant them bail, while others from other countries that committed similar bailable offence were granted bail,” Abike said

In Jewish law, marriage consists of two separate acts, called erusin or kiddushin, meaning sanctification, which is the bethrothal ceremony, and nissu'in or chupah, the actual ceremony for the marriage. Erusin changes the couple's interpersonal status, while nissu'in brings about the legal consequences of the change of status. 

In Talmudic times, these two ceremonies usually took place up to a year apart; the bride lived with her parents until the actual marriage ceremony which is the nissuin, would take place in a room or tent that the groom had set up for her. But since the Middle Ages the two ceremonies have taken place as a combined ceremony performed in public.

According to the Talmud, erusin involves the groom handing an object to the bride - either an object of value such as a ring, or a document stating that she is being betrothed to him. 

In order to be valid, this must be done in the presence of two unrelated male witnesses. 

After erusin, the laws of adultery apply, and the marriage cannot be dissolved without a religious divorce. The couple may live together after nisuin.

Africa Should Reject ‘Free Pass’ for Leaders- ICC!

 African governments should reject special exemptions for sitting officials before the International Criminal Court (ICC), African organizations and international organizations with a presence in Africa said in a document released on 18th November, 2013.

The ICC’s annual meeting, the Assembly of States Parties (ASP), will take place from November 20 to 28, 2013, in The Hague, Netherlands.

The ICC faces important challenges in Africa. In October the African Union said that the trials of Kenya’s president and vice president, Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, should be suspended and that all sitting national leaders should receive immunity before international courts.

“Immunity for government leaders before the ICC is contrary to the basic principle that no one should be above the law,” said Georges Kapiamba, president of the Congolese Association for Access to Justice.“We should not deny justice to the victims and their families because their tormentors hold high political positions.”
The meeting’s general debate and scheduled session on the impact of indicting sitting heads of state will offer African and other governments important opportunities to affirm support for the ICC’s independent role in ensuring justice for the gravest crimes.

“Human rights abuses by governments and armed groups remain one of the biggest challenges confronting people in Africa,” said George Kegoro, executive director at the International Commission of Jurists-Kenya. “Ideally, domestic courts will ensure justice for these crimes, but the ICC serves as a crucial court of last resort when they are unable or unwilling.”
Some African leaders have taken the position that the ICC is targeting Kenya. In Kenya, where the authorities failed to respond adequately to post-election violence, the ICC prosecutor’s office acted to open an investigation. In all other situations before the ICC, the situations were referred by the governments where the crimes took place or by the United Nations Security Council, as with Libya and Darfur, Sudan.

“The ICC is far from perfect, but it is not targeting Africa,” said Angela Mudukuti, international criminal justice project lawyer at the Southern Africa Litigation Centre. “The majority of ICC investigations came about because African governments requested the ICC’s involvement. These countries should work to dispelinaccurate information and to correct misperceptions about the court.”

At the same time, there are double standards in the delivery of international justice that need to be addressed, the organizations said.

“The ICC’s reach should be improved, but justice should not be denied in Africa because it is not yet possible everywhere,” said Chinonye Obiagwu, national coordinator at Nigeria’s Legal Defense and Assistance Project. “ICC members can demonstrate their commitment to victims by supporting prosecutions wherever the worst crimes are being committed.”
The document  intended to promote common advocacy aims in advance of the ASP session. Organizations involved include the following: Burundi Coalition for the ICC, Center for Democratic Development of Ghana, Centre for Accountability and Rule of Law – Sierra Leone, Coalition for the ICC, Congolese Association for Access to Justice, Human Rights Watch, International Commission of Jurists-Kenya, International Crime in Africa Programme of the Institute for Security Studies, Legal Defence and Assistance Project of Nigeria, Media Foundation for West Africa, NamRights in Namibia, Nigerian Coalition for the ICC, Southern Africa Litigation Centre, and Transformation Resource Centre of Lesotho.
