The Despicable State Of Some Rural Roads In Imo State!

This is believed to be the state of some roads in Imo state, South Eastern Nigeria. This is coming after the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha stated in an interview with the Sun Newspaper, published on-line on 20th September, that construction of rural roads remain the focus of his administration.

Part of the interview Below:

Interview Qs: "Your excellency, concerning the rural roads you mentioned, I happen to come from Orogwe in Owerri West here and our own road, for example is among roads that were said to be tarred. Right now, as we speak it’s not pliable as the contractor was only able to work from Irete to somewhere around Ndegwu. I also know that the road leading to Old Nekede has collapsed. What do you have to say about that?

Gov. Okorocha: Okay, let me explain that. The Orogwe road we are talking about, I don’t know why it is still like that . Some of these rural roads, I don’t know, but I am happy to say that some of them have been done. Let me tell you, I did not say we have overhauled all roads. This will be coming in the second phase of the programme for rural roads, but at least you have admitted that some of them have been done. The Nekede project is a Federal Government project just like the Port Harcourt road and people keep screaming that I should do something. What can you do when the contract has been awarded to a national contractor, Arab Contractors, who has abandoned the project for lack of payment by the Federal Government? Now, the same thing is applicable to Nekede road. That of Nekede was awarded at about N6 billion and to do the erosion control, but I couldn’t have waited for the Federal Government. Right now, as I am talking to you, work is going on there to at least make it passable for people. So, this government is very responsive. Our rural roads are still our focus but we have not finished work on all of them. We are not saying that we have overhauled or constructed all rural roads in Imo State, but some have been overhauled or constructed".

Please why is it that when it's time to construct or re-construct a major road, the issue of under 'whose domain' it fall comes to play, but when it comes to getting votes or taxes from these areas, they will be regarded as citizens of the state?

Police Brutality- Officer Kills Nursing Mother In Lagos!

Tricycle drivers otherwise called 'Keke-Napep drivers' in Isheri- Osun area of Lagos State recently staged a protest with placards and inscriptions like ‘Isheri Police, your generation will suffer,’ ‘Stop killing us,’ as they protested over the attack on one of their colleagues, who was a victim of Police's indiscriminate shooting.

Reports has it that the commercial tricycle driver identified as Godwin Ekpo and his wife Idongesit Ekpo were on their way home from a mid-week church service, when he ran into an eight man team of Police officers extorting money from tricycle riders at a check-point mounted around Obalagbe bus stop in Isheri at about 10pm Wednesday, September 16.

While trying to avoid the Police men, Godwin attempted to speed past the check-point, but mistakenly brushed their patrol van. A move which infuriated the officers,  one of the officers hit the tricycle’s windscreen with a baton and damaged it, while a corporal in the team identified as Aremu Musesiu, opened fire at his tricycle. The bullet shattered the tricycle, killing Mrs Ekpo who was breastfeeding their 3 month old baby at the time. The bullet further pierced through Godwin's neck as he turned to look at his wife and his child.

Realizing the extent of their action, the officers took to their heels, unfortunately for the 'trigger-happy' officersresidents quickly formed a crowd at the scene and prevented them from leaving. Out of fear, the officers called for reinforcement, and officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and other Policemen from nearby divisions arrived the scene and rescued them.

The remains of the deceased has been deposited at a mortuary while the children of the couple are with the Police where they being catered for.

The Lagos state Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, said the officer who fired the shot that killed Mrs Ekpo have been arrested, while the DPO of Isheri Osun had also been issued a query for disobeying the Inspector General of Police’s instruction.
