My husband kidnapped our son for N51m ransom – Wife!
An estranged housewife, Mrs. Titi Jamil, has accused her, husband, Ahmed Jamil, of kidnapping their son and collecting N51 million as ransom.
Titi, who appeared before an Ikeja Customary court, on Monday, pleaded for the dissolution of her marriage on the grounds that it lacked love and that her husband, whom she allegedly paid N1 million monthly salary, was only after her money.
She maintained that her husband sold their house in London for N68 million without giving her or either of their two children part of the money.
Narrating that she met her husband in London, Titi told the court that the couple had a traditional marriage and that her husband, who was absent in court, converted her from Islam to Christianity.
Describing her husband as prayerful and caring in the early period of the marriage, Titi said Ahmad later turned vicious, beating her during pregnancy even as he stopped praying.
She said, “The only reason why he married me was because of my father’s money. He was God-fearing when I met him. We never missed devotional hours. But after our marriage, he showed his true colour as he stopped praying and began to beat me even during pregnancy.
“Ahmad kidnapped my son and asked for a ransom of 210,000 pounds after I left his house with my children. My elder sister paid the money into his mother’s account in London and he released my son to me after his mother confirmed to him that the money had been paid.
The bailiff told the court that all efforts to reach Ahmad proved abortive, saying his ferocious dogs scared visitors to his residence.
Court president, Mr. Ayo Ipaye, noted that the respondent has not showed up in court since the case began.
Ipaye said that since the petitioner has given evidence before the court and the respondent has refused to show up – “it is only right to give judgment.”
He ordered the dissolution of the marriage and granted custody of the children to their mother.

Fani-Kayode withdraws “intimate relationship” comment about Bianca Ojukwu!
A week after Bianca Ojukwu threatened a lawsuit over an “intimate relationship” comment about her, Nigeria’s former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has withdrawn the controversial comment.
In a statement through his lawyer, Rotimi Akinola, on Thursday, Mr. Fani-Kayode accepted that he erred by making the comment but said it was “bizarre, absurd and inexplicable” that the wife of the late Biafran warlord, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, claimed they were never acquainted.
“As our client said earlier through his press secretary some of the words he used to describe his friendship with Ambassador Ojukwu in his article titled ”A Word For Those Who Call Me A Tribalist” were indiscreet,” Mr. Fani-Kayode’s lawyer said in the statement.
“He hereby withdraws those words,” he added.
News of Mr. Fani-Kayode’s withdrawal of the comments came just as PREMIUM TIMES learnt that several concerned highly placed Nigerians were reaching out to both Mr. Fani-Kayode and Mrs. Ojukwu with a view to amicably resolving the differences between them.
One of those who initiated the peace moves but pleaded not to be named said both parties were cooperating with the efforts at reconciling them.
He said the statement by Mr. Fani-Kayode’s lawyer was part of the measures suggested by the mediators.
A few weeks ago, Mr. Fani-Kayode had written the article where he sought to allay the outrage caused by an earlier controversial piece titled ‘The Bitter Truth About the Igbos.’
In the article, Mr. Fani-Kayode had disclosed that he had had a “long standing and intimate relationship” with Mrs. Ojukwu, former beauty queen and daughter of a state governor in the Second Republic.
The claim angered Mrs. Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, who directed her lawyers to request Mr. Fani-Kayode to retract his statement.
In his statement on Thursday, Mr. Fani-Kayode, who was also a Minister of Culture and Tourism, insisted that he knew Mrs. Ojukwu in the early to mid-80′s when he was a student at London University and Cambridge University respectively.
“They were good friends at the time and they had a few mutual friends who are still alive today,” Mr. Fani-Kayode said through his lawyer.
“The bizarre, absurd and inexplicable assertion that they were not friends and that Ambassador Ojukwu has never met our client is patently false.
“Though he has not seen her for over 25 years he spoke to her on the phone when her husband passed on last year,” he added.
Last week, Mrs. Ojukwu’s lawyers, Wall Street Attorneys, in an advertorial in a national newspaper threatened to commence a legal action against the controversial ex-minister if he fails to retract his comments.
The lawyers stated that their client was “outraged” and “embarrassed” by Mr. Fani-Kayode’s claims.
“In the circumstances, we demand, on the instruction of our client that you submit to her (Mrs. Ojukwu) a clear and unquantified apology and retraction published in The Sun and Thisday newspapers in addition to having the retraction published online,” the lawyers had said.
“Take note that should you fail to tender the apology and publish a retraction of your false and malicious publication, seven days after your receipt of this demand notice, our further instructions are to seek appropriate redress in court. And that shall be without further recourse to you. Be properly guided,” they had added.

The Edo State Government has offered to sponsor the educational career of stowaway teenager, Daniel Oikhena, up to the university level.
The Edo state offer is coming on the heels of a similar sponsorship promise by Osun State-based voluntary organisation, De Raufs Foundation.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Louise Odion, said the promise to sponsor Oikhena’s education was borne out of the determination by Governor Adams Oshiomhole that the JSS I pupil receive the best education.
Gov Adams Oshiomhole |
The commissioner however expressed Oshiomhole’s regret over the seeming crack in the relationship between the boy’s parents which he said had affected the young boy.
He said, “Edo State government is already taking steps to ensure that Daniel gets not just material but also psychological support to enable him achieve his God-given potentials. As a doting parent himself.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole has followed the development closely. As a matter of fact, he personally engaged Daniel.
“From his interaction with him and his parents who unfortunately are separated, it is obvious that there is a deficit in terms of parental care, even though he sounds quite intelligent. We will ensure that
Daniel benefits first of all from the intervention of clinical psychologists. His psyche needs to be weaned off destructive anger.
“Thereafter, Edo State government is ready to assist Daniel to get to university level, consistent with the philosophy of Comrade Oshiomhole that every Edo child gets quality education that not only address the cognitive, but also the affective and psycho-motor domains as well.”
Daniel’s mother, Mrs Evelyn Oikhena, had indicated all was not well between the husband and herself, claiming the man and his family showed up solely because of the offers coming Daniel’s way.
Evelyn had said, “He (Daniel’s father) decided to appear now thinking that money is involved but he abandoned the children all these while, it is shameful.”
An out-cry against the madness going on in Syria!
David Cameron has said British laboratory tests have confirmed that the lethal sarin nerve gas was used in the notorious chemical attack in Syria in August.
Speaking at the start of G20 summit in Saint Petersburg, the prime minister also questioned how Labour could live with itself for taking "the easy political way out" in last week's Commons vote, a decision that he said had been taken in the knowledge that children had been gassed to death in eastern Damascus.
Cameron said he took "full and personal responsibility for the decision to recall parliament, for the decision to take a strong and principled stand against the gassing of children in Syria, and I take full responsibility for putting forward as generous a motion I could, to bring as many people with me as I could. Everyone who voted has to live with the way that they voted."
The positive tests for sarin were completed this week and made on clothes and soil taken from the site of the attack in Ghouta, eastern Damascus on 21 August. The tests were carried out in the past seven days by British scientists at the Porton Down facility, and will be deployed by Cameron in a fresh attempt to persuade the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, to do more to force the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, to the negotiating table.
The samples brought to the UK from the Syrian borders are different to the hair and blood samples tested in the US. Details of those test results were released by the US secretary of state, John Kerry, four days ago.
British sources did not give further details of the precise content of the UK tests, but said they were confident the samples had not been tampered with during their passage to the Syrian border, and then to the UK.
The results of the separate UN weapons inspectors' onsite tests in Syria have yet to be revealed, but are likely to be known around the time the US Congress votes on whether to back military action next week. British intelligence has already produced an assessment that it does not believe the rebel forces had the capacity to mount a chemical attack, but Putin has been arguing that this is the case.
Putin:

After refusing to put the issue of Syria on to the agenda, Putin relented on Thursday and said the crisis would be discussed over dinner at the summit.
Cameron:
"We were confident and remain confident that Assad was responsible not only for this chemical weapon attack, when we saw children being gassed on our television screens, but also we know that there have been at least 14 previous chemical weapons attacks.-- Cameron
"I think the evidence is growing all the time. We have just been looking at some samples taken from Damascus in the Porton Down laboratory in Britain which further shows the use of chemical weapons in that Damascus suburb."
But he expressed scepticism that the fresh evidence might be "a game changer" in what is becoming an increasingly bitter international debate on whether to regard the chemical attack as a red line that the international community cannot allow to go unpunished.
"All the testing that's been done, including the testing we are doing at our Porton Down laboratories, all adds to the picture. But I don't think anyone is seriously denying that a chemical weapons attack took place. I think the Russians accept that. Even the Iranians accept that.

"The question is obviously convincing more people that the regime was responsible."
German intelligence this week claimed to have intercept evidence revealing the Syrian military had been behind the attacks, but there is little irrefutable material about the provenance of the attack in the public domain.
Cameron repeatedly denied he had been sidelined by the Commons vote last week to reject UK involvement in military action in Syria. He vented his fury at the way in which Ed Miliband, the Labour leader, had handled the vote last week.
He said: "My only regret about what happened last week is that, having produced a motion in parliament that was clear about going to the UN, that was clear about listening to the weapons inspectors, that was clear about having another vote before military action – all things that the opposition asked for – that even in spite of that, in my view, they chose the easy and political path, not the right path."

Obama:
His closest ally left him in the lurch. The United Nations can’t find its voice. And the Arab League is so faint-hearted that it might as well be on life support.
Is it any wonder then, that President Barack Obama decided to seek help from his long-time nemesis, the US Congress? Bad situations sometimes lead to creative solutions.
Is it any wonder then, that President Barack Obama decided to seek help from his long-time nemesis, the US Congress? Bad situations sometimes lead to creative solutions.
The issue, of course, is the latest outrage by Syria’s beleaguered and brutal government of Bashar Al-Assad: its August 21 sarin gas attack on four rebel-held areas of Damascus that caused the horrific deaths of more than 1,400 civilians, including nearly 500 children.
It was, as Obama said, “the worst chemical weapons attack of the 21st century,” and not seen an equal since Iraq’s use of chemical weapons against both its own Kurdish civilians and its Iranian adversaries in the Iran–Iraq War of 1980–1988.
It also violated international law, specifically the Geneva Protocol of 1925 banning chemical weapons. For all these reasons, it cries out for a response from the international community.

Is the world capable of protecting these ones???

Nigeria's Dangote signs deal to build oil refinery!
Africa's wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote, has signed a multi-billion dollar deal with banks to finance the building of an oil refinery in Nigeria.
Aliko Dangote |
The refinery would be the largest in Africa, turning Nigeria into a petroleum exporter, he told the BBC.
Nigeria is Africa's biggest oil producer but lacks refining capacity and has to import most of its fuel.
The West African state is often hit by fuel shortages, and conflict over control of its oil wealth.
Mr Dangote told the BBC's Chris Ewokor that job creation is the most important thing.
