Borno Mayhem - Nasir El - Rufai expresses concern over abducted teenagers!

Nigerians are beginning to express concern over the fate of the 20 teenagers allegedly abducted by members of the dreaded boko - haram, when they attacked Konduga in Borno state.

Among such individuals is Nasir El - Rufai, as he twitted:

"Nigerians are asking about the 20 abducted Borno teenage girls. The least the government can do is release a statement to calm the parents. That is what a caring government - though helpless - would do. Scores of people continue to die in the northeast, all we hear from this government is silence".

Efforts to recover rest of Abacha loot ongoing; Stella Oduah under investigation - EFCC!

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has assured Nigerians that it will ensure that the remaining part of the $3billion loot linked to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, is recovered.
The Federal Government has already retrieved about $2.550billion of the $3billion from the late Abacha’s accounts and his family.
At a briefing in Abuja on the agency’s activities in 2013, Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said the EFCC secured 117 convictions of 533 cases during the period.
Giving a breakdown, Umujaren disclosed that loot recovered from Abacha’s accounts and family are: voluntary surrender($750m); Switzerland ($570m); Jersey ($380m); UK($150m); Luxembourg ($300m); and Liechtenstein ($400m).
Another £22.5m (N6.18billion) stashed in the Island of Jersey was recovered in 2011, while an additional £20million is being investigated as part of the outstanding $450million.
We have done substantial work on the Abacha loot, but we have not totally closed the matter. In investigating financial crime of this nature, a case of this nature is not totally closed,” he said.
“If there are issues on Abacha’s loot, we will still investigate them. But we have not concluded the probe of the loot.”
He further confirmed that the Commission was investigating the N255millon bullet proof cars scam, involving the immediate past Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah.
The spokesman stated that: “I think the issue is not whether or not we are going to invite Oduah, we are on that matter.
“The Commission is on top of that bulletproof cars’ case, and in due course, we will update you. As you know, no responsible anti-graft agency will give you insight into what it is doing at the investigation stage. But we will let you know the outcome of our investigation very soon.”

Continuing, “As most of you are aware, the rate of conviction is the global benchmark for assessing the effectiveness of a law enforcement agency.
“It is my pleasure to announce to you that considerable progress was made by the commission in this area in 2013.
“In 2013, the commission charged a total of 533 cases to court and recorded 117 convictions. This conviction figure represents an improvement over the 105 convictions recorded in 2012.
“These figures indicate a steady progression in convictions return which is encouraging in the light of the well publicized encumbrances that the EFCC contends with in the prosecution of economic and financial crimes case.
“99% of these convictions was secured by lawyers from the Legal and Prosecution Department of the EFCC. This has buoyed the determination of the leadership of the commission to strengthen the department and de-emphasize the use of private solicitors for the prosecution of economic and financial crime cases.
“In recent weeks, the commission has had to re-arraign many of the suspects undergoing trial at the Federal High Court and some state high courts due to the transfer or elevation of members of the bench in these courts.
“Resources and time have been wasted in the process, but the commission is not deterred. We remain committed to bringing these matters to logical conclusions within the ambits of the rule of law.
“Going forward, we are encouraged that the performance for 2014 should be better than what was witnessed in 2013. This optimism is informed by the new practice directive by the Chief Justice of Nigeria on the expeditious handling of corruption cases in court.
“Let me use this opportunity to appeal to all stakeholders within the justice system to cooperate with the EFCC to ensure that the objective of the new practice is achieved.
“The fight against corruption and financial crimes calls for a concerted effort. I enjoin members of the public, including the media, to be part of this effort by reporting cases of corruption to the EFCC.” he said.
Among those convicted in 2013 were, Pastor Glory Abrefera, Reverend Vincent Okpogo and their company, Mustard Seed Micro Investment Limited.
The duo were found guilty of carrying out banking practice without licence and collecting over N1billion from different individuals and organizations as deposits in an illegal investment scheme.
Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, Asaba, Delta State convicted and sentenced the accused persons to 10 years imprisonment on each count and a fine of N2million on each of the counts.

Nick Cannon Surprises His Wife on Valentine's Day with a diamond heart-shaped pendant necklace!

Mariah Carey wanted to make sure Nick Cannon knew what he was missing on Valentine's Day.
The pop superstar revealed on Friday that she and her husband actually celebrated the romantic holiday the day before because he was going be in New Orleans for the 2014 Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.
Naturally, the songbird shared several sexy selfies to her Instagram account, urging him to come home.
"Waiting for my Valentine...," the Grammy winner captioned a snapshot.
The 43-year-old is flaunting her enviable curves in a candy Sweetheart bra and plenty of glitter. She is resting—of course—in a bathtub, which is appropriately filled with red and pink balloons. Her long wavy honey locks are covering most of her face as she smiles for the camera.
"Still waiting," she anxiously wrote on another snapshot, before she busted out a glass of champagne.
Looks like the sizzling photographs did just the trick because Cannon surprised his wife and their twins Moroccan and Monroe.
"My funny Valentine has arrived! #YoureMineEternal I love you @NickCannon," Carey added with a photo of the lovebirds.
Cannon gave his wife a "You're Mine" diamond heart-shaped pendant necklace and added,"Had to give my beautiful wife a little Valentines Day Surprise!#YoureMine#Diamonds#CandyBra#ConfettiOnTheBody#PartyTime#PutTheKidsToBed."

Woman gets electrocuted while trying to save her daughter!

Seventeen-year-old Mojisola Masika escaped death on Tuesday when she was nearly electrocuted by electrified rainwater. But her joy was short-lived as she lost her mother, Bola, 56, who was electrocuted in the process of saving her life.
Mojisola and her mother (Bola)

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 1pm during a heavy rainfall, which snapped an electric cable at Hotel Bus-Stop, along Isheri-Iba Expressway, Lagos. They said the cable had rested on its pole and that Mojisola, who was by the pole, was overcome by electric shock caused by the effect of the detached cable on the rainwater. Bola was a vendor and her wooden kiosk is by the bus-stop with electric cables directly overhead.
Apart from Bola, a commercial motorcyclist, Omoniyi Ajele, 30, was also electrocuted.
Mojisola said tearfully, “My mother died for me. I was in the kiosk when I suddenly felt like I had epilepsy. I had stepped on the rainwater, which had been electrically charged by the cable. I was shaking and I heard my mother shouting for help, and then she held me. It was later in the night that I was told that my mother was electrocuted in the process.
“I’m grateful that I’m alive but I’m not really happy because my mother died while trying to save my life. She was everything to me and had promised to take care of my university education before her death. She worked very hard for us (her children) and had been saving money for my university education since the last 10 months. She was always fasting for us; even at the time of her death, my mother was undergoing a fasting programme. She had also told me to go ahead and find out about the cost of a training I told her about.”
Mojisola, who was planning to study Computer Science at the University of Lagos, said she would miss her mother’s love and support.
The mood at the Masika family residence on Olu Adegoke Street, Isheri-Oshun in Ijegun-Ikotun area of Lagos, was gloomy during our correspondent’s visit two days after the incident. Bola had been buried at the front of the house on Wednesday, a day after the incident and the family was preparing for her eighth day prayers, in accordance with Muslim funeral rites.
But shortly before the incident, Mojisola said the cable had thrown off electric sparks, prompting her mother to contemplate relocating to a new area.
Ironically, Bola moved to Hotel bus-stop form Ejigbo area of Lagos about 12 years ago following an oil pipeline explosion, which had killed a number of persons there.
Her husband, Moshood Masika, said, “After the pipeline explosion at Ejigbo, she decided to leave the area even though she was not affected by it. She wanted a safer place to do her business, but who would have known that she was leaving Ejigbo for another dangerous place. We will miss her because she was a good woman.”
Bola’s first daughter, Iyabo, who burst into tears while speaking with our correspondent, said living without her mother would be “very painful for the family because of her love, care and strength.”
Confirming the story, eyewitnesses said they ran to Bola’s kiosk when they heard her cry for help.
A commercial motorcyclist, Mr. Bashiru Azeez, explained that he and Ajele had run to the kiosk to help Mojisola when they saw Bola fall down.
But we didn’t know initially that it was electric shock, we thought the two of them were having seizures. So we tried to attend to Mojisola, who was already showing signs of dying. Ajele asked me to quickly get a spoon to put in Mojisola’s mouth, but before I returned, Ajele had also died,” he said.
Azeez said that some soldiers who were passing in a vehicle branded ‘OP MESA’ had assisted in getting Mojisola to the General Hospital, Igando.
“Many of us thought she was dead, only to later hear that she survived the incident,” he added.
Ajele was also been buried on Wednesday in Ondo State, the day he had planned to have his child’s naming ceremony.
Another resident, Olubayo Adeniji, said there had been several complaints made to electricity officials in the past about weak cables in the area, but that they never heard from the officials.
This is not the first time that we will experience electric sparks in the area; we have complained several times to the officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (now IKEDC) but nothing happened,” he said.
On Thursday however, officials from Igando Undertaking Unit, were at the scene of the incident to correct the electrical fault. While work was going on, some community elders had to intervene to stop some aggrieved youths from attacking the officials.
The Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Pekun Adeyanju, said he would need to get in touch with the Business Unit at Ikotun, to know if complaints had been made by residents in the past concerning the electric cables at Hotel Bus-Stop.
He also urged people who live or work under electric cables to relocate because of the risk of electrocution.
He said, “I will need some time to get in touch with our Business Manager at Ikotun Business Unit, but we have written several letters to the Lagos State Government about the situation in many places across the state where people live or have shops under power lines.
“It’s dangerous but we cannot force them to leave these places because we don’t have the power to do so. We often talk to people who are affected by this and they tell us that they don’t have any other alternative.”

It's not yet time to throw a party on our anniversary –Foluke Daramola!

Despite controversies that surrounded her marriage to Kayode Salako, the love between Foluke Daramola and her hubby seems to be waxing stronger than some expected.
As they clocked one year in marriage on 15th February, the couple felt it was not yet time to celebrate.

According to information gathered, the couple said they would rather celebrate the anniversary “together, alone and quietly.” Fortunately, February 15 was also Foluke’s birthday, so it was a double celebration for the duo.
There was so much noise concerning our marriage; so we have decided to spend our first anniversary together. We intend to go out of town to somewhere quiet; just me and my husband. We could later celebrate it in a big way but for now, things would be quiet,” the actress said.

The actress and some of her colleagues, under the aegis of N17, held a walk against domestic violence where She told Saturday Beats that they embarked on the walk because at some point in their lives, some of the members of the group were victims of domestic violence.
Some of our members are Yomi Fashlanso, Fathia Balogun, Bisi Ibidapo-Obe, Ronke Ojo and Muyiwa Ademola. We are a bridge between the common man, government and the private sector. At a point in our lives, we were victims of domestic violence,” she said.

According to Amnesty International homosexuality is illegal in 38 of 54 African countries.
