London Could Face Possible Water Shortage, Flooding From Overflowing Sewage If....!

With a population increase of 100,000 a year, estimated to reach as much as 13.4 million by 2050, the London Assembly’s Environment Committee in a report published on Wednesday, March 9, has warned that possible water shortages and a risk of flooding from overflowing sewage as demand for water could outstrip supply by 20 percent by 2040, unless action is taken to ensure more sustainable development.

This situation according to the report, owes to the assumption that the need for more housing to met the increasing population, will put green spaces and waterways under pressure. To address this, the successor to Mayor Boris Johnson, has been urged by the Confederation of British Industry, to implement a more sustainable policy on water and waste management and energy use. This the committee said is achievable through setting out a housing strategy that commits to building 100,000 new homes a year and to push the government to take a decision on where to build a new runway to boost airport capacity in southeast England.
