2015 Presidential elections- Nigeria's Ex Militants Spits Fire!

Nigeria's former Defence Minister, Rtd. Gen. Yakubu Danjuma, reportedly received a 'seven-day ultimatum' from a group of ex-militants in the Niger Delta region, functioning under the platform of Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, headed by Reuben Wilson, to withdraw a statement where he called for the arrest of some ex militants or face wrath.

According to information, the retired Army General had condemned the decisions from a meeting held by the ex-militants in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, where they allegedly threatened to unleash terror in the country, if President Goodluck Jonathan loses the February poll. Consequently, Danjuma reportedly called for the immediate arrest of Asari Dokubo,  Victor Ben and Government Ekpemupolo otherwise known as Tompolo, all ex-militants.
This move from Danjuma seemed not to have gone down well with the ex militants, as they responded by giving -the ultimatum.
Part of the alleged statement read: “As much as he has the right to free speech, Danjuma ought to know that the oil money he is enjoying today, through his ownership of oil blocs, came from our sacrifices and blood. We staked our lives to fight for the development of our country.
“We fought for freedom for our land and it pains us that people like Danjuma who have reaped bountifully from the Niger Delta, can wake up to insult our sensibilities.
“For Danjuma to call for the arrest of Asari Dokubo, then he has walked on the tail of the serpent.
“The much we know is that we the ex militants who decided to drop our guns to join forces with the federal government to develop the country, especially the Niger Delta, have never said anything or taken any action that would warrant such explosives from Danjuma".
On the other hand, it was gathered that the Special Adviser to the President on the Amnesty Programme, Mr Kingsley Kuku, has dismissed the report, saying the ex-militants only expressed concern over the way the President was treated during his campaign in Bauchi and Katsina states.

The scene in the picture below is all about a young woman at Ajah area of Lekki, Lagos state, who alleged that the man she is seen grabbing on the shirt duped her of over seventy thousand naira.

It was gathered that the unidentified lady bumped into the man, who she claimed she met in Cotonou- Benin Republic, sometime in 2014, and he promised to assist her in purchasing some machandize. Little did she know she that she had walked into a con artist, as she told the crowd that gathered, that instead of getting the promised goods, the man simply absconded.
"Shebi you chop my moni for Cotonou run, you think say I no go see you again abii? come run now make I see you" the lady screamed at him, as she held tightly to his collars.

Trust some nosy passers-by, when the man was asked what the lady's name is, since he claimed she was his girl friend.... he started mumbling, saying something like being a military man, and that no body can just intimidate him...

Meanwhile, some area boys around the area had a field day in dishing him some free slaps and blows before some good Samaritans intervened.

Nigerians Living As refugees In Chad!

As campaign for the February polls, heats up in Nigeria, with political party aspirants engaging different tacks to gain favorite spots in the heart of Nigerians. Hundreds of people from Northern Nigeria, are currently forced into refugees, as they flee from boko-haran menace in their states.

The United Nations Refugee Agency reports below, should bother our Nigerians and our politicians:

"The UN refugee agency on Friday expressed concern about the return to Nigeria of hundreds of refugees from Niger this week as the number of people fleeing militant attacks in northern Nigeria continued to grow. UNHCR urged the authorities in both countries to halt the repatriation.

Spokesman William Spindler told journalists in Geneva that UNHCR had received reports that the refugees were transported on nine buses to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in Nigeria. "Another 11 buses are currently parked in the town of Gagamari in Niger's Diffa region, waiting to take more refugees back to Nigeria," he added.
"Given the volatile security situation in Borno state and the recent attacks by insurgents, UNHCR is concerned about the nature of these returns and has asked the authorities to stop this operation until there are proper safeguards and a legal framework between Nigeria, Niger and UNHCR," Spindler said.
Refugees fleeing the fighting between militants and government forces in north-east Nigeria continue to arrive in Niger and Chad with harrowing tales of killings and destruction, including the extreme violence inflicted on the lakeside town of Baga earlier this month.
"A woman, who ran away from Baga with her five children and her husband, said she saw insurgents run over women and children with their cars, shoot at people and use knives to cut their throats in the street. She estimated that hundreds had been killed in Baga," Spindler said. "The terrified family managed to escape at night before reaching Maiduguri, from where they took a bus to Niger," he added.
Some 13,000 Nigerian refugees have arrived in western Chad since the January 3-7 attacks on Baga. UNHCR and the governmental Commission Nationale d'Accueil, et de Réinsertion des Réfugiés et des Rapatriés have registered more than 6,000 refugees.
Dozens of refugees continue to arrive every day, many by canoe over Lake Chad to areas such as Ngouboua and Bagasola, some 450 kilometres north-west of the Chadian capital N'djamena. Some 16,000 Nigerian refugees have now arrived in Chad since May last year.
"We are concerned that refugees from Baga and the surrounding area are choosing to flee over the lake into Chad as this may indicate that the overland route into Niger is blocked by insurgents," UNHCR's Spindler said in Geneva.
"Our teams in Chad report that they have identified 104 unaccompanied children, who have been separated from their families while fleeing the attacks in Baga. They have been placed in foster families while waiting to be reunited with their own," he added.
At the same time, UNHCR has started the relocation of some 2,000 refugees, who were stranded on the Lake Chad islands of Koulfoua and Kangalam, to the newly opened site of Dar Es Salam, near Bagasola. The site, which presently hosts some 1,600 refugees, is located 70 kilometres from the border with Nigeria and will be able to accommodate up to 15,000 people. The attacks on Baga have also pushed some 570 people to flee to Niger's Diffa region  with some of them having first crossed through Chad before reaching Niger.
Since a state of emergency was declared in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states in north-eastern Nigeria in May last year, an estimated 153,000 people have fled to neighbouring countries. To date, UNHCR has registered more than 37,000 Nigerian refugees in Cameroon, some 16,000 people have arrived in Chad, and the authorities in Niger estimate that more than 100,000 people, both Nigerian refugees and Niger nationals, have arrived from the war-torn north-east of Nigeria. In 2015 alone, the violence has led to an exodus of 19,000 people".

Playing Dirty At The Arena..... Fayose Pulls A Hard One On Buhari!

In a campaign advertisement on front pages of some national dailies including Guardian and the Punch newspapers, the governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, listed three Nigerian Former Heads of States
who died while in office:Late General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, late Sanni Abach, late Musa Yar'Adua and the (very much alive)
72 year-old All Progressives Congress Party Presidential aspirant, Muhammadu Buhari with a question mark over his picture.

The advertisement titled "Nigerians Be Warned", began with a biblical quote from Deuteronomy 30:19, which says " I have set before thee life and death, therefore choose life, that both thee and thy seed may live", graced the newspaper front pages on 19, January, 2015.

This came following an alledged
medical test, reportedly distributed by some opposing (PDP) party
loyalists, which claimed the APC presidential flag bearer was diagonized with prostrate cancer at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria.

It was gathered that authorities at the Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital publicly denied the existence of such medical test, while the Buhari camp has since rebuffed this claimed, and ever visiting the said hospital in the past five years.

Nigerians React To Slash In Fuel Price!

With the current down turn in oil prices across the globe, which The Economist attributed to "weak economic activity, increased efficiency, and a growing switch away from oil to other fuels. Turmoil  in Iraq and Libya, two big oil producers with nearly 4m barrels a day combined—has not affected their output. The market is more sanguine about geopolitical risk. And America's emergence as the world’s largest oil producer. Though the U.S does not export crude oil, it now imports much less, creating a lot of spare supply. Finally, the Saudis and their Gulf allies have decided not to sacrifice their own market share to restore the price" .
To make matters Worse, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, (OPEC), after a meeting in Vienna, November 27, appeared determined not to curb oil price,  a situation that has sent the price of oil falling.
This is not so good for energy exporting  countries, where governments depend heavily on high oil price to pay for expensive foreign adventures and expensive social programmes. The Economists lists some of these nations as "Russia (which is already hit by Western sanctions following its meddling in Ukraine) and Iran (which is paying to keep the Assad regime afloat in Syria), Venezuela and Nigeria.
The 18 January, 2015 slight slash in the cost of motor spirit fuel, by Nigerian Petroleum Minister, Diezani Madueke, is greeted with mixed reactions, as some groups out rightly criticized the reductions, saying the government should do better, considering the  global oil price. Among such groups is a Nigerian based Human Right Organization, "Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People"(CDRP).
The group stated their disappointment in the federal government's mere N10 reduction, despite current global fall.

"The natural economic expectation of our organization is that the price of petroleum would drop in conformity with the current global fall in the price of the commodity. Therefore, it is strange and parochial to hear that the federal government is celebrating a paltry N10 reduction.
“A careful review of government action thus far has clearly shown that the federal government has not learnt from the aftermath of January 1st 2012 subsidy protest. They are about to impose a reverse subsidy on the populace. In case the government does not know, the main message of the 2012 protest was that there is a limit upon which government can take people for granted” Comrade Saka stated.
The group therefore emphasized that the government has no basis to keep the retail price of PMS at N87.
“The price of PMS must revert to N65 with immediate effect”. The group's  Acting National Coordinator, Comrade Saka Waheed stated.

Nigerian Government reduces Petroleum Motor Spirit Price From =N=97 To =N=87!

This election period is getting interesting by the day, in what appears to be a glimpse of hope to the average Nigerian, Petroleum Minister, Diezani Madueke, announced a reduction in fuel price from N97 per litre to N87 per litre, with effect from midnight.
She revealed this in a statement, she issued Sunday, January 18 2015.

The statement read:
"As you may be aware, there has been a lot in the oil market in the past few months and due to this, importation prices of our petroleum products have been impacted. Therefore, with the approval  and directive of Mr. President and by virtue of Section 6 clause 1 of the Nigerian Petroleum Act, it is my responsibility as Minister of Petroleum Resources to hereby announce a reduction in the pump price of Petroleum Motor Spirit (Petrol) from the current Ninety Seven Naira (=N=97 per litre pump price down to Eighty Seven Naira (=N=87=) per litre pump price, effective from twelve (12) midnight Sunday, 18 of January 2015. Accordingly, I have directed the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to ensure strict compliance of this price adjustment by all marketing companies. It is my hope that all Nigerians will benefit from this adjustment. I thank you and God Bless you all

Diezani Alison-Madueke (Mrs.) CON

Honorable Minister of Petroleum Resources".

It is not certain if this is mere campaign strategy, or sheer luck to Nigerians.

Which ever it is, let's just enjoy the ride...

150 Persons Killed In Baga Attack- Nigerian Military!

Contrary to Amnesty International report that no fewer than 2000 people were mascaraed by the the boko-haram insurgent group in the Northern Nigerian town of Baga, the Nigerian Military says the casualty figures from that attack is at 150.
This was revealed by the spokes person for the Nigerian Military Defence, Major General Chris Olukolade.  According to him, From all available evidences, the number of people who lost their lives during that attack has so far not exceeded about 150 in the interim.
