Trump's Victory- United States No Longer United!

As his journey to the Oval Office begins on Thursday, November 10, with an invitation to the White House by out-going  President Barack Obama, Donald Trump's unexpected victory against Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton on Wednesday, 9th November, 2016, seems to be dividing a once united country as protests erupted in various major cities across the United states.

The protests against some of Trump's election promises like: Getting the U.S to Rethink its relationship with NATO, create a special Police Force to deport immigrants (especially Muslims and Nigerians) without visa, Build the U.S/Mexican border "Wall", which he said the Mexicans will pay for, among others, some of which appeared to be racists, xenophobic, Islamophobic and a total digression from the founding principles upon which the United States of America was built.

On the International perspective, coming at the heels of the prospect of increased U.S. oil production, on one hand, and oil companies slowly return to Iran following the lifting of Western sanctions on Tehran in January, 2016, on the other handDonald Trump during his campaign stated he would tighten policies on Iran. A move which if actualized would see OPEC countries confronted with a not- so -pleasant outlook for the global economy as a result of weaker demand for its crude.

Despite inexperience in Politics Donald Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States and is expected to resume office on the 20th of January 2017. After his victory,  Donald Trump however reached out through his twitter handle with this message: "Such a beautiful and important evening! The forgotten man and woman will never be forgotten again. We will all come together as never before".

Drainage Clearance Needs Waste Disposal Support!

In an attempt to prevent predictions released by the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NiMET) and Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) on flooding and rainfall, particularly on coastal regions which are characterized by high water levels and flat terrain, the Lagos State Government, in a press release issued by the state Commissioner for the EnvironmentDr. Babatunde Adejare in August, 2016, urged residents to focus more on clearing drains and canals in their areas during statewide monthly sanitation exercises observed between 7am and 10am. Pictures below as seen at Alesh street and Ajah market, off Lekki Peninsula express way, Lekki - Lagos Nigeria, shows that most residents comply with this directive by making efforts to clean out the drains in their locality.

The fate however of these 'cleared out wastes' is where the issue lies. From observation, there are often no waste disposal trucks to clear out stacked wastes after each sanitation periods.

Ajah market, Lekki
This leaves the 'cleaned-out' wastes littered all over the streets. Did I hear you scream "malaria and all sorts of epidemic/ flood disaster alert"... that is exactly what it is....

Ultimately these abandoned wastes are washed back into the drains from where they were cleaned out, taking the efforts of well-meaning residents back-to square Uno.

There is need for closer collaboration between state's Waste Management Authority, for instance (LAWMA) and the Environmental Services and Waste Department to ensure that wastes are properly disposed after each sanitation exercise to avoid flood and epidemic outbreak.

Pls Check These Lastma Officials Opposite Igbobi Hospital!

Lastma officials at Western Avenueinwards Fadeyi, opposite Igbobi Orthopaedic Hospital,  Lagos - Nigeria, observed doing peharps more than what is required of them, unnecessarily pulling over commercial bus drivers (Danfo) for who knows what offence.

It was observed that these Lastma officials would pull-over a commercial bus, ask the driver to alight while one of them gets in and pull the vehicle over...he remains in the vehicle as seen in the picture below, until the driver "settles" with his ogas...then the vehicle would be released.

Lagos State authorities check the activities of these guys in particular, and keep them in order peradventure.....
