The "Nigerian" label !

The internet has been set agog with reactions coming from all angles, following the identification of the killers of 25 year old British soldier “Drummer Lee Rigby Royal Regiment of Fusiliers” by two men identified as Michael Mujid Adeboloja, and Michael  Adebowale in the Woolwich neighbourhood of London.

Firstly, I hereby send my heartfelt condolence to members of his family, friends and associates, most especially his wife and son. May God strengthen every one of them at these trying times. Drummer Lee Rigby was a true hero who lived and died for a course he believed in. May his soul find eternal rest in God's bosom, Amen.

To the main issue that brought me here, the issue of the "Nigerian" label as it concerns the international community. So many people of other Nationalities out there, tend to associate themselves with Nigeria through either possessing  the Nigerian passport or bearing Nigerian names; does that make them Nigerians? as far as i am concerned, it does not.

On the other hand, this could be another move to upgrade  Nigeria's current position in the  list of terrorist states. Otherwise, how else would it be better explained that some young men, who have never been to Nigeria all their lives, nor carry a Nigerian passport, are being labelled Nigerians, simply because they go by  Nigerian names.

This needn't be so, as a Country, we have our peculiar local challenges, which we are battling to bring under control.

By the way, We have so many Nigerians out there bringing glory to Britain, some of them include: Aston Villa’s Gabriel Agbolahor,
Britain’s discus record holder Lawrence Okoye,
Beijing Olympic British gold medalist Christine Ohuruogu,
British Olympic female football star Eniola Aluko,
British Olympic basketball queen Timi Fagbenle,
.......and the list goes on.
Why has it not been so emphasized that they are Nigerians, same way these criminals are being labelled?

From what i saw on the internet, these are highly dis-functional and mis-directed  young men who are only looking for a platform to carry out their obnoxious acts. His speech:

“(we)swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you.”
”The only reason reason we have done this is because Muslims are dying every day.
“There are many, many ayah (religious verses) throughout the Koran that says we must fight them as they fight us, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”
“I apologize that women had to witness this today but in our land women have to see the same.
“You people will never be safe. Remove your government. They don’t care about you.
“You think David Cameron will get stuck in the street, when we start busting our guns?
“You think your politicians are gonna die? not it’s gonna be the average like you, and your children.
“So get rid of them. Tell them to bring our troops back, so you can all live in peace.”
This is clearly a speech motivated by "terrorist fundamentalists".  This is not the typical Nigerian young man.

Please not every criminal out there with a Nigerian name, is Nigerian. We are widely disassociated from such individuals and acts!
