In what the Police described as "mob action carried out by an irate crowd", a crowd reportedly beat a teenage girl to death on the suspicion that she planned to detonate a bomb at a market in Bauchi - Nigeria, Sunday, March 1.
According to the story, the two girls aroused suspicion when they refusing to be searched as they arrived at the gate to a vegetable market, eyewitnesses said people overpowered one girl and discovered she had two bottles strapped to her body. They clubbed her to death, put a tire doused in fuel over her head and set it on fire.
A second suspect, also a teenage girl, was arrested at Muda Lawal, the biggest market in Bauchi city.
The Police however have their reservations on the incident, as Police Deputy Superintendent Mohammad Haruna reportedly expressed doubts on the girl actually being a bomber as she did not detonate any explosives when she was attacked, said He described her as the victim of "mob action carried out by an irate crowd."
