Georgia Executes 1st Female In 70 Years!

Kelly Renee Gissendaner, became the first woman to be executed in 70 years in the U.S state of Georgia on Wednesday, after she died by lethal injection at about 12:21 am, having exhausted all her state and federal appeals.

The 47 year-old mother of three was sentenced to death for masterminding the February 7, 1997 murder of her husband Douglas in Gwinnett County.  Her boyfriend,  Gregory Owenwho killed her husband, testified against her in exchange for a deal that spared his life.

Gissendanerhas had two previous scheduled executions postponed in February due to a winter storm, and in March, when authorities found a cloudy appearance in the drug that was supposed to be used for the lethal injection.

Before Gissendaner was executed, she apologized for her action and sang "Amazing Grace."
