A senior government official in Ogun state, who asked not to be named, has confirmed that Akinola was rescued by a security team led by the Ogun state Governor, Ibikunle Amosun on Wed, Dec 25th.

"When the governor heard of the incident, he personally led his security team on a patrol of the area. The gunmen were tracked down, and they abandoned the primate and his car. They were cornered at Ijoga Orile in Ogun West. The primate is on his way home now,” the official disclosed.
It is not known, however, if the gunmen have been arrested.
When asked whether Akinola’s driver was rescued too, the official said he did not know yet but was awaiting further information.
