Kim Kardashian posted a photo of her Christmas present from Kanye West on Instagram yesterday.
West gifted his fiance a caramel Hermes Birkin bag, but it’s no ordinary designer purse: The bag is painted by artist George Condo, whose style the rapper’s fans will recognize from his Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album art. Kardashian’s bag features a series of, frankly, grotesque characters, all of which are nude. The bag’s central character, a fully nude woman with soft features and a recognizably human face, is a bit more conventionally drawn than the images surrounding her.
Hermes Birkin bags, which are not sold online by the French luxury goods retailer, can sell for between $16,000 to $100,000, depending on leather quality and other factors such as colour. Because Kardashian’s new bag is hand-painted and is, as the reality TV star herself wrote alongside her Instagram post, “one of one” (meaning one of a kind), there’s no way of knowing its worth – though Condo’s paitings have previously sold at auction for more than $1-million.
