The oldest living person in the world, Susannah Mushatt Jones is dead.
Jones died on Thursday, May 12th in an nursing home in Brooklyn- New York City, where she lived the past three decades of her life.
Born July 6, 1899, Susannah Jones who was originally from Montgomery, Alabama, was the granddaughter of slaves who held the title: “world’s oldest living person” and “the last American born in the 19th Century”. Information revealed that Susannah was born the same year the word “automobile” first appeared in text - and lived through two world wars, 20 US presidents, and unimaginable Jim Crow racism.
Susannah became the record holder for the Guinness World Records title of oldest living female in July 2015. She attributed the secret to a long life to sleep and bacon.
Susannah Mushatt Jones had been ill for the past 10 days before she passed. She was aged 116.
