In what seems like a sign that the key ingredient to solving Europe’s refugee crisis, which is EU’s beleaguered emergency asylum seeker mechanism, could finally be working, Portugal and Norway are opening their doors to thousands of asylum seekers.
Adopted in September 2015, the emergency relocation plan, was aimed at moving 160,000 asylum seekers from Greece, Italy, to other EU countries. This is to reduce the burden on first countries of arrival, and to create an alternative to the chaotic marches by migrants as they journey deeper into Europe.
