Niger Delta Communities Sue Shell Over Oil Spill Negligence!

The Ogale community in Rivers State, with about 40,000 people who are mainly farmers and fishermen, and the Bille community, who are also mainly fishermen  have sued Royal Dutch Shell plc, in London for the second time in five years over spills in the Niger Delta.

The law suit points to a November 2015 Amnesty International report which says the four spill sites Shell says it planned to clean up are still contaminated. The case is handled by Leigh Day law firm.
According to reports, the first court hearing is due on Wednesday, March 2nd, at the Technology and Construction Court, which will determine if the claimants can proceed to lodge a case against Shell's Nigerian business, known as Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC).

Shell said the case which is at an "early stage" in reviewing should be heard in Nigeria.
